Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Undergraduate Research & Enrichment Programs (UREP) will be responsible for day-to-day coordination of the STAR Scholars Program, Drexel's flagship early undergraduate research program serving 100+ rising second-year students per year. Their role will focus on student advising and program administration duties, including planning and executing STAR programming during the academic year and summer; assisting with recruitment and selection of STAR Scholars, which includes participating in recruitment events, reading applications, and managing the current student application process; and coordinating housing, hiring, and payroll for all STAR Scholars. This student-facing role will also include general UREP office support and support of other UREP initiatives, like the Aspire Scholars Program.

Essential Functions



  • Advise STAR Scholars (60-70 students/year).
  • Selection of STAR Scholars:

    • Read student applications in prospective student cycle (500+ applications/year) and current student cycle (150+ applications/year); work with Director and Associate Director to organize and review all review data and select applicants in both prospective and current student application cycles - (Essential)


  • Recruitment of STAR Scholars:

    • Along with Director and Associate Director, host information sessions and other recruitment efforts for current student application cycle.
    • Work with Pennoni communication and marketing team to promote current STAR application; participate in Pennoni admissions events to promote prospective student application process.


  • Assist with Aspire Scholars Program:

    • Includes student advising (10-15 students/year) and assisting with purchasing and reimbursement requests.
    • Hire all STAR Scholars (100+ students/year) and approve biweekly timesheets Assist with planning and executing annual STAR Scholars Summer Showcase Plan summer programming for STAR Scholars with support from Assoc.
    • Create and manage online application and review process for current student STAR application Assist with planning and executing academic year programming for STAR Scholars - includes STAR Spring Orientation for 100+ students Coordinate summer housing for STAR Scholars (100+ students) Maintain online platforms for STAR Scholars Program (Canvas/BBLearn site, STAR SharePoint) by annually updating content and membership, including writing weekly digest emails to STAR Scholars in summer term.


  • Coordinate Outstanding Mentor of the Year award process:

    • Create and promote nomination process to students, review nomination letters, manage selection process for awardees.


  • Assist with department and college-wide programming as necessary (examples include but are not limited to providing research consultations for students, attending drop-in hours, participating in fellowships interview committees).
  • Manage UREP inbox.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications



  • Minimum of a Master's Degree in or the equivalent combination of education and work experience. (Please review the Equivalency Chart for additional information.)
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in higher education environment in teaching; research; program development, administration, or evaluation; grant writing; advising; etc.

Additional Information
This position is classified as Exempt, grade J. Compensation for this grade ranges from $47,490.00 - $71,230.00 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
