The Nabet laboratory is seeking an enthusiastic, organized, detail-oriented undergraduate researcher (Lab Aide, Work Study) to provide technical support for ongoing research efforts. The goals of our research program are to develop strategies to target cancer drivers by controlling protein homeostasis to gain new biological insights into clinically relevant targets and to advance new therapeutic strategies in cancer. This position is ideal for an individual who is seeking an entry-level introduction to a research lab environment and in gaining valuable research experience and technical skills. The candidate should have an interest in molecular biology, genetics, chemical biology, and/or cancer biology, be able to follow written protocols and show attention to detail.

The candidate would start in the during the academic year. During the school year, time commitment would be 10-15 hrs/week, with flexibility based on the academic calendar and an opportunity for more hours in the summer.

This is a work-study opening. Work-study is a college / university program that enables part-time jobs for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need, affording them assistance with educational expenses. Applicants eligible to apply need to have the following:

    Currently on or will be eligible for off-campus work-study during the upcoming academic school year.

You will be required to submit Financial Aid documentation confirming work study eligibility for off-campus work prior to interview



Responsibilities

The candidate will work closely with Dr. Nabet and members of the laboratory and assist with general lab tasks and learn how to conduct experiments in cancer chemical biology research, with room to develop an independent research project.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Assist with routine lab tasks including stocking, cleaning, and organization
  • Assist with experiment quantification and documentation
  • Prepare media and reagents, such as stock solutions and LB broth
  • Prepare stock solutions and aliquot reagents
  • Learn new lab techniques to assist current lab members
  • Maintain clean and orderly laboratory area
  • Perform clerical duties as required
  • Maintain an electronic lab notebook


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Enrollment as an undergraduate student at the University of Washington (Seattle, Bothell, or Tacoma campus). is required, preferably for a junior or senior who wants to pursue a graduate degree (PhD or MD) in biological sciences.
  • Must have a current Work Study award as part of the student's financial aid package

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior research experience

Additional Information

  • Employment is contingent upon verification of Work Study eligibility each quarter.
  • Work hours are typically limited to 19 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during breaks, in accordance with UW Work Study policies.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $20.76 to $30.13 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
