Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Application Developer for the Office for Research. The Office for Research's mission is to support the research, scholarship, and creative endeavors of all Rutgers faculty. The Office accomplishes its mission by convening with academic and research leaders, providing integrated, user-focused resources, services, and tools, and partnering with faculty. As part of the Office for Research IT team, the primary responsibility of this position is to develop and maintain websites associated with the Office for Research at Rutgers and to implement and support web-based applications that manage research administration. The Application Developer will be a key member of the Office for Research IT team, responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining web applications and digital platforms that support research initiatives across the university.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Collaborates closely with stakeholders to deliver user-friendly, secure, and scalable solutions that enhance research administration and compliance.
- Works with modern technologies and frameworks to ensure high performance and reliability of web systems, including the integration of AI-driven features using Gemini or other LLM APIs.
- Participates in innovative projects that drive digital transformation.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in computer science and two years of relevant work experience in the development of web and database applications and content management systems or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in agile environments, and excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience with Linux and Windows server environments.
- Exposure to cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with unit testing frameworks and debugging tools.
- Knowledge of RESTful APIs and web services integration.
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript; experience with frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue.js.
- Experience with server-side programming languages such as PHP, Python, Java, or C#.
- Experience with any modern CMS platform.
- Familiarity with SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
