This is an on-site position based in our Charleston, WV office.

Purpose:

The Principal Mechanical Engineer will provide technical leadership and oversight for mechanical engineering activities within the Chemicals and power business lines. This role ensures that all engineering and design work is executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements. The successful candidate will serve as the Project Discipline Lead on various sized projects, guiding teams to deliver innovative, cost-effective, and high-quality solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead mechanical engineering efforts as Project Discipline Lead, ensuring all deliverables meet scope, schedule, quality, and budget requirements.
  • Oversee and mentor a team of mechanical engineers and designers to deliver safe, reliable, and technically sound designs.
  • Provide mechanical engineering services that meet Worley, client, and regulatory standards.
  • Manage project scope, prepare progress reports, participate in design reviews, and enforce quality checking procedures.
  • Support project execution through all phases - from front-end development to detailed design and commissioning.
  • Assist in procurement activities by preparing technical specifications, evaluating vendor bids, and developing purchase orders.
  • Collaborate closely with clients and other engineering disciplines to resolve design challenges and align project objectives.
  • Drive innovation by staying informed on new technologies, materials, and industry practices in the chemical processing sector.
  • Provide technical guidance and coaching to junior staff to develop their professional and technical capabilities.
  • Maintain a strong safety focus in all design and engineering activities.

What you will bring
Technical/Industry Experience and Qualifications Requirements:

  • Significant experience in chemical processing facilities or similar industrial environments.
  • Proven ability to lead and deliver mechanical engineering projects from concept through detailed design.
  • Strong understanding of process equipment design, materials selection, and fluid handling systems typical in chemical facilities.
  • Excellent technical and practical engineering skills with a focus on safe, efficient, and compliant design.
  • Solid knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and working familiarity with related disciplines.
  • Proficiency in mechanical design software and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience collaborating within multi-disciplinary project teams.

Education - Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 12+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience within the chemical industry.

Preferred:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or eligible for registration in the State of West Virginia.
