The Director Financial Accounting and Reporting is responsible for the strategic direction of the Financial Accounting and Reporting Team to ensure alignment to Company strategies. They'll interpret new GAAP and SEC rules and regulations and their potential effect on the business and provide guidance that aligns department deliverables, staffing, and Team development. The Director Financial Accounting and Reporting is a detail-oriented thinker and organized collaborator ready to drive the future of Southwest.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively to align expectations, inspire action, spread awareness, and gain buy-in of the Controller strategies across the organization
  • Provides oversight for retention, talent, and Leadership development for teams and department
  • Lead the compilation, analysis and interpretation of cross-functional data for business-decision support and presentations to executive Leadership and financial auditors
  • Lead the development of standardized accounting policy and procedures in accordance with GAAP
  • Research and provide consultation on all new accounting pronouncements and relevant GAAP implications and how they strategically impact the company
  • Serve as a liaison with and oversee the work of external auditors
  • Define and lead the departmental Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and mid-year planning (MYP) efforts as well as oversee monthly financial closing and internal/external reporting processes
  • Advise regarding financial and operational systems and projects impacting Finance including the associated risks, controls and compliance
  • Oversee design and maintenance of SOX compliance processes
  • Ensure financial reporting is aligned to overall company position, including detecting unusual or unexpected balances or transactions and aligning to company narrative
  • Oversee Department changes and implementation of new guidelines, policies, and processes
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
  • Advanced knowledge of GAAP and SEC regulations
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Skilled in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
  • Ability to look for and develop talent proactively; able to replace people in key positions across functional area
  • Ability to make time sensitive decisions to move work forward; take responsible risks to achieve goals
  • Ability to create content and present meaningful data to top decision-makers
  • Ability to apply multiple coaching strategies in order to tailor feedback to the unique style of individual Team Members
  • Ability to challenge convention purposefully; advocates for new ideas and processes to increase efficiency, quality, and Customer Satisfaction
  • Skilled in actively pursuing and leading best-practices across all functional areas maximizing compliance, productivity and scalability
  • Skilled in translating vision and objectives into a clear business strategy, consistent objectives, and action plans for multiple functional areas
  • Ability to anticipate future and/or strategic trends within the industry; assess implications for the Department and make appropriate recommendations
Education
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
  • Required: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
Experience
  • Demonstrated experience directly or indirectly leading Team(s)
  • Advanced level Business Acumen in functional area
  • Seasoned and specialized knowledge in:
    • GAAP and SEC rules and regulations
    • Accounting processes, including month-end close, internal and external reporting
    • Leadership of accounting Teams
    • Presentation and explanation of financial results to various levels of leadership
    • Documentation of accounting policy memos
  • Preferred: Experience in SAP S4 Hana, Alteryx, and Tableau
Licensing/Certification
  • Required: Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
Physical Abilities
  • Ability to perform work duties from limited space work station/desk/office area for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must meet confidentiality expectations as to confidential, proprietary, and sensitive Company information
  • Must have the flexibility to work extended hours, including occasional weekends, and Company holidays

Pay & Benefits:

Competitive market salary from $189,450 per year to $210,500 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
