Overview

Quonset Point - General Dynamics Electric Boat

General Dynamics Electric Boat provides an unparalleled learning experience for college students, offering practical exposure in the defense industry alongside expert engineers, shaping the future of submarine innovation.

Facilities Engineering is responsible for all critical systems, utilities, structures, and buildings. We maintain, repair, and improve every corner of the QP Facility. We provide engineering subject matter expertise and consulting for our large capital projects. Our mission is to provide better than world class service and uninterrupted utility feeds to keep our shipbuilders working. As an intern, here are some of the tasks you may be responsible for:

    Conducting engineering analyses for infrastructure expansion projects. This could be a single gas feed or a power feed for an entire building.
  • Overseeing vendors conducting preventative and predictive maintenance work throughout the facility
  • Managing repairs of systems and equipment through a vended workforce.
  • Scoping, planning, and executing capital projects to support the facility buildings and systems.
  • Supporting department engineers with field studies and verification of field conditions.
  • Assembling engineering documentation to support project work.
  • Responding to emergent situations when they occur and providing sound engineering solutions to return our operations to normal status.

This program requires a minimum commitment of 8 weeks during the Summer 2026 Season.

Participation in this program requires medical screening, passing a drug test, and potential DOD Investigation

This is not a remote opportunity.



Qualifications

To be qualified for this position:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • US citizenship is required.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a medically supervised drug screen and background check.
  • Must be enrolled full-time at a college or university
  • Open to Bachelor of Engineering candidates in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Fire Protection Engineering.

  • At minimum students must have completed their Freshman year prior to the start of the internship.
  • Must be available to work 40 hours per week for a minimum eight (8) consecutive weeks between May 2026 to September 2026.
  • Selected candidates will be responsible for establishing housing and reliable transportation for the duration of their intern assignment.
