The role of a Quality Engineer is to ensure that the Stamping Parts meet the quality requirements on all facets of the New Model Programs from early tooling Engineering discussions to launch at the Stamping plants. The Engineer will ensure that the new stamping parts quality requirements align with the program quality objectives.

Responsibilities include reviewing the GD&T documents and Quality documents and coordinating the Quality activities of the new stamping parts and quality tools in accordance with the datums and PLP strategy, GD&T, simulations, part buyoffs and launch buyoffs. The Engineer will ensure that the GD&T's meet the program quality requirements. Provide support to the SPE functional areas and various cross functional organizations including Stamping and Assembly Plants.

Including, but not limited to, leading, overseeing activities and timing for:

  • Work with the Dimensional Process Engineering team to ensure that the proposed GD&T for all the new model program parts meet the established standards and support the Stamping Process Engineering (SPE) die process capability.
  • Work with the SPE Forming team and the Selected Die Sources to ensure that the GD&T is in coordination with the stamping gravity simulations for new parts. Ensure that the initial stamping morphs and the stamping simulations can deliver first time dimensional quality.
  • Work with the Manufacturing Quality Team to review and buy off gage designs, buyoff completed gages. Ensure the gages support die tryout and part measurement needs.
  • Analyze the stamping part dimensional data at each tryout quality loop and provide feedback to the SPE New Model team and the die suppliers for areas needing correction as well as areas ok as is.
  • Support stamping part dimensional quality reviews or Sample Part Inspection Report (SPIR) with all stakeholders - Dimensional Validation, Assy and Stamping plants, Engineering, Stamping Process Engineer, Quality Manager and Program Manager
  • This activity needs to be coordinated on the die set buyoff of each program build including start of production and final launch
  • Determine useability of part
  • Identify areas to be improved - with "hard points" identified (must correct)
  • Agree on functional build (blue) points where tolerances can be revised to leave as is (derogation)

  • Summarize meeting decisions, blue points, hard points and description of fixes to be made.
  • Support quality reviews and escalate as necessary. Review the vehicle build issues with Dimensional Validation and Assembly plant teams. Communicate stamping changes required to the SPE Quality Manager and the SPE Program Manager.
