Scope of Position:
- This position is responsible for driving a truck to collect donations from various locations and bring them and unload them and store them at our local building/warehouse, plus assist at the warehouse (Social Services) under the direction of the Service Extension Director.
- This position helps the Service Center Director during Christmas Fundraising, Christmas Distribution, Food Distribution, other distributions or assistance that is seasonal, or part of the daily services provided at the Baker City Service Center.
Education and Work Experience:
- Education:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
- Or two years' work experience
- Work/Professional Experience
- Safe driving record.
- Candidates should have prior experience driving a truck with a gross vehicle weight of 25,999 that has air brakes.
- The proper candidate will be able to maintain this truck (DEF fluid refiles, checking all fluids, air pressure of tires and filling trip logs ect.).
- A Commercial Driver's license (CDL) is not necessary.
- Candidates should have prior experience driving a truck.
- Candidates should possess an Oregon driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Must have good communication skills with coworkers and with the public.
- Must have the ability to work in a team environment.
- Must be able to work in a sometimes-chaotic environment while remaining focused on the task at hand.
- Must be able to follow instructions and safety requirements.
- Must be able to present a respectful, courteous attitude toward customers & fellow workers.
- Must possess a valid Driver's License.
- Must have an acceptable MVR report.
- Must be able to pass The Salvation Army Decision Driving Test with a score of 75 or better.
- Must be able to pass criminal background check for working with vulnerable youth and/or adults.
- Must be insurable and remain insured by The Salvation Army's insurance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Additional Essential Duties and Responsibilities (As Truck Driver)
- Driver is expected to be courteous and helpful to all.
- Inspect truck daily and report any corrections needed immediately to Supervisor.
- Ensure truck is clean and presentable (including interior).
- Gas and DEF as necessary. Check tire pressure and examine tires regularly.
- Monitor first aid kit and fire extinguisher to ensure they are stocked and up to date.
- Drive in a safe, courteous manner and obey all traffic laws.
- All other duties as assigned by the direct supervisor.
Additional Essential Duties and Responsibilities (As warehouse Assistant)
- Help with sorting donations such as clothes, shoes, Miscellaneous items, Books, Electronics and Household items.
- Breaking down cardboard boxes of various sizes.
- Emptying of trash and metal containers.
- Must be able to run a clothing bailer.
- Assist with the loading of the trailer with clothes, bails, shoes and books and miscellaneous items.
- Assist with property maintenance such as weeding, washing windows, picking up trash and putting down ice melting during appropriate weather seasons.
Physical Requirements:
- Must have the ability to, but not limited to, the following: sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis, grasp, push, pull objects, reach overhead, lift 40 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds assisted on occasion with no restrictions.
Working Conditions
- This position requires the employee to work outdoors, indoors, and on a truck. The employee must be prepared for all types of weather conditions and working environments that they may incur on any given shift.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, hand, or feel objects, tools, or controls; to talk or hear; reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
