Job Announcement

Do you have a passion for creating meaningful experiences for older adults? This position works as a qualified and motivated individual that plans, coordinates and implements high-quality programs and services designed to meet the needs and interests of older adult residents. Located in Small District 1A- Dranesville, MCC serves as a cornerstone of the community, delivering exceptional programs and services that enhance the quality of life for residents of all ages. Plays a vital role in advancing the center's mission by ensuring that older adults in the district remain active, engaged, and connected through a diverse array of recreational, educational, and cultural offerings.

Note: Due to the nature of this position occasional weekend, evenings, and holidays will be required.

  • Plans, coordinates, and implements engaging older adult programs focused on improving physical health, mental wellness, and social connection
  • Research and learn new recreational games, including Mahjong and Bridge, to effectively lead engaging group activities that promote social interaction and improve overall patron satisfaction
  • Oversee administrative functions such as budget preparation, performance agreements, invoicing, attendance tracking, and financial reporting
  • Designs, updates, and distributes promotional materials, including monthly calendars and flyers, to boost awareness and participation
  • Identifies and integrates emerging trends and best practices in older adult services to keep programming relevant and appealing
  • Develops and executes outreach strategies in collaboration with internal teams to attract new participants and expand program outreach
  • Coordinates program logistics including room reservations, setups, and collaboration with the Facility team to ensure smooth operations
  • Facilities and support events and activities, including setup, participant engagement, food service, and post-event cleanup

Illustrative Duties

General Duties

  • Completes and submits various financial, administrative, and statistical reports;
  • Adheres to revenue and expense limits, goals, and guidelines for specialized areas of supervision;
  • Authorizes purchase requests and invoices for payment;
  • Responds to public inquiries and concerns;
  • Analyzes and evaluates service in terms of individual and community needs;
  • Performs administrative functions at a facility, including budget preparation, recruitment of volunteer staff, maintenance of records necessary to the operation and evaluation of center programs, and report preparation.

Programming
  • Schedules, coordinates, and evaluates class, camp, and tour programs held at parks, centers, schools, government facilities, and private vendor locations;
  • Coordinates planning, scheduling, and billing for day and overnight trips and tours.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of recreation center and /or park management;
  • Knowledge of fiscal record keeping and inventory procedures;
  • Ability to direct and coordinate the work of subordinate staff and volunteers;
  • Ability to plan, develop, and administer recreation programs or community activities;
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with employees and citizen groups;

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from an accredited two-year college or university with an associate degree in recreation, park management, therapeutic recreation, or a closely related field; plus two years of related experience in recreation center, park, athletic field, golf course operations, or community-based program coordination or a related field, as applicable to the position.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

  • CPR (Required within 3 months)
  • First Aid (Required within 3 months)
  • AED (Required within 3 months)

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a Child Protective Services Registry check to the satisfaction of the employer.
  • Additional Work Schedule Requirements: Occasional evening, weekend and holiday work will be required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in gerontology, recreation, psychology, or a related human services field plus three years of creating and implementing recreational programs for adults 55+.
  • Experience with creating marketing and outreach initiatives.
  • Experience planning, coordinating, and evaluating programs for older adults in community setting.
  • Experience managing budgets, processing invoices, and handling purchase orders.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work well with a diverse group of older adults.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate with and manage multiple vendors or service providers.
  • Process strong customer service skills and the ability to work with a diverse staff and community.
  • Possesses good judgment, ability to show initiative and work independently.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Job is generally sedentary in nature; however, visual acuity is required to read computer monitor, incumbent must be able to operate keyboard driven equipment. Ability to lift at least 25 pounds and communicate with others verbally and in writing. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
