Job Title: Kitchen Manager (Salary)

Location: Solitude Mountain Resort
Department: Food & Beverage, Roundhouse
Reports To: Executive Chef


Position Summary:

The Roundhouse Chef is responsible for the culinary leadership and daily operations of a specific food outlet at our ski resort. This role includes full accountability for menu development and execution, team leadership, quality control, cost management, and special event support. The chef will lead a team of culinary professionals, ensuring exceptional guest experiences while maintaining operational and financial excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Culinary Operations
  • Develop, test, and implement core menus tailored to the outlet concept and guest preferences.
  • Ensure consistent and high-quality execution of all menu items, while maintaining presentation and taste standards.
  • Oversee food preparation, cooking, and plating to ensure quality, portion control, and timely service.
  • Maintain strict adherence to food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards.

Team Leadership & Development
  • Develop a high performing team by setting clear performance and values based behavioral expectations (cultivating collaboration, honoring authenticity, prioritizing purpose, embracing empowerment), and defining what exceptional guest experiences look like.
  • Hire, train, and manage kitchen staff, including entry-level and experienced team members.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, performance feedback, and disciplinary action when necessary. Deliver honest feedback regularly.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performance kitchen culture that attracts, develops, and retains top talent.
  • Ensure all team members understand and follow resort policies and procedures.

Administrative & Financial Accountability
  • Manage labor and food budgets for the outlet, ensuring cost-effective operations.
  • Use Workday to create staff schedules, approve time sheets, and manage time-off requests in compliance with HR guidelines.
  • Monitor and control food and labor costs, minimizing waste and optimizing efficiency.
  • Conduct monthly inventory counts and manage daily and/or weekly ordering to ensure proper stock levels and minimize underage and overage.


Special Events & Collaboration
  • Plan and execute culinary components of special events, including apres-ski gatherings, private functions, and resort-wide celebrations.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Chef and Food & Beverage leadership to align resort-wide culinary initiatives and standards.
  • Partner with front-of-house teams to ensure seamless service and guest satisfaction.


Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of culinary leadership experience in a high-volume, quality-driven kitchen (resort or hospitality experience preferred).
  • Demonstrated expertise in menu development, food costing, and kitchen operations.
  • Must be able to ski Blue level terrain & pass ski safety test
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage and inspire a diverse team.
  • Proficiency in inventory systems, ordering processes, and scheduling tools.
  • Culinary degree or equivalent professional experience preferred.
  • ServSafe or equivalent food safety certification required.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-altitude environment
  • Flexible schedule required, including weekends, holidays, and peak ski season periods.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
