Duties, Responsibilities & Other

KCI is looking for a natural resources project manager to lead ecology assessments and associated permitting out of our Columbia, South Carolina office. The ideal candidate will have experience in natural resource assessment and permitting work supporting transportation and infrastructure projects throughout the state, including familiarity with federal and state regulations. The individual will be expected to lead both field delineations and assessments as well as report preparation. This position offers the opportunity to step into a leadership role to develop additional ecology and natural resource permitting and assessment work. Additional experience in protected species surveys and stream and wetland mitigation and technical skills in GIS, GPS, survey, and drafting are a plus. This individual will have the support of our southeastern team, which includes roadway engineers, ecology field staff, mitigation specialists, NEPA staff, and water resource engineers. We're looking for someone who can build on existing relationships and is eager to start new ones both internally and externally and is comfortable working across disciplines and offices.

Experience

    Minimum of 10 years of experience in ecology, natural resource evaluations, stream and wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species evaluations, and environmental permitting, with a focus on South Carolina and infrastructure projects.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive client relationships.
  • Experience with municipal engineering/environmental services in various jurisdictions is a plus.
  • 2-3 years of direct experience as a Project Manager leading projects is required.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of local, state, and federal regulations related to natural resources, impacts, and associated permitting.
  • Experience with ecological assessments and wetland delineation.
  • Demonstrated skills in organization, time management, strong task management, and interpersonal skills are required. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with individuals in other geographies and disciplines is a must.

Qualifications

  • BS in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or Wildlife and Fisheries Management is required.
  • MS in relevant field or PWS certification is a plus.
  • Formal training in natural resource evaluations and ecological assessments a plus.
  • Pre-employment drug screening, background, and motor vehicle checks are a condition of employment.

Other

  • Overnight travel within South Carolina or to adjacent states may be required on occasion.
  • Ability to safely conduct field surveys in various weather and challenging field conditions.

Must provide references upon request.



Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 - 12 years of professional experience.
  • Appropriate professional certification preferred.
