Applications will be accepted through November 10, 2025 - Apply on-line at www.wfec.com SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Relief Shift Supervisor, and the direction, guidance and oversight of the Auxiliary Operators, the Auxiliary Operator Trainee is responsible for learning the essential duties and responsibilities of the Auxiliary Operator. The incumbent is accountable for completion of in-house training program and documentation within assigned deadlines. The primary responsibility of this position is the effort to continually improve job knowledge and hands-on experience regarding how to assist in all phases of the power plant operation. Incumbent trains to monitor and operate all auxiliary equipment. Incumbent will train on various shifts and rotating shift schedules as needed. When necessary, the incumbent may train on how to perform plant lab or maintenance activities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Includes the following: other duties may be assigned. Learns and follows all safety and plant procedures. Successfully completes formal in-house and on-the-job training programs to become qualified to perform all duties of an Auxiliary Operator. The duties of an Auxiliary Operator include the following: Responsible for monitoring and recording hourly readings for all auxiliary equipment, and if necessary, takes corrective action to ensure safe and reliable operation. Operates auxiliary equipment during startup, normal conditions, and shutdowns under the direction of the Shift Supervisor in a safe and reliable manner. Operates demineralizers, water filters and chlorinators, adds chemicals to boiler as directed and monitors cooling water system. Maintains proper lubrication, air, water, and gas supply to all operating and standby equipment. Responsible for reporting any abnormal operating conditions to the Shift Supervisor. Performs minor mechanical maintenance on auxiliary equipment and reports such to the Shift Supervisor. Assists in the training of new personnel. Performs mechanical maintenance, E&I maintenance, or laboratory duties as assigned and including the following: Works with mechanics and learns basic preventative and repair maintenance on plant equipment. This includes tasks such as equipment lubrication, filter replacement, and strainer cleaning. Learns the Maintenance Request system and can complete maintenance requests as assigned. Operates various power tools, hand tools, and heavy equipment such as forklift, winch trucks, cranes, tractors, mowers, and other plant equipment. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors required. Education and Experience: Requires High School Diploma or GED. Requires two years of progressive related experience in operations in a power plant or industrial environment. Related education may be substituted for experience at a rate of one year of education for one year of experience. Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to other employees. Math Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Computer Skills: Ability to use a personal computer to access the intranet and Microsoft Office software as required. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: This position requires a current driver's license. WORK SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS: Incumbent may work a rotating shift schedule; relief shift schedule or irregular schedule as required and may be required to work overtime and on short notice. May also be required to travel on short notice. May require working a shift change on short notice for short periods of time.
