Description
Conducts and executes all duties and responsibilities in the spirit of NMG's Core Values. Provides leadership, direction, and supervision to a team of Process Engineers (aka Manufacturing Engineers) and Engineering Technicians. Defines roles and responsibilities, communicates expectations, and holds direct reports accountable. Provides inspirational cross-functional team leadership throughout NMG Aerospace. Serves as the primarily technical leader in process and procedure related to production operations, problem solving, efficiency and manufacturing costing. Essential Job Functions:
- Directs and coordinates the process development, and process qualification of new Engineered Products and new build to print products. Monitors programs in compliance with NMG's New Product Introduction (NPI) processes.
- Directs and coordinates the development and implementation of the manufacturing processes, assembly methods, testing protocols, and production equipment designed to ensure cost effective production of products that meet or exceed our customers' expectations.
- Ability to drive success providing support for operations and continue to develop future talent pipeline for NMG through Co-Op program.
- Ensures that these new products, manufacturing processes, assembly methods, testing protocols, and production equipment meet or exceed the requirements of our AS 9100 Certification and are consistent with established standards and customer specifications.
- Directs and coordinates the development and implementation of safe, optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes, assembly methods, testing protocols and production equipment, and recommends and implements improvements to such.
- Directs and coordinates the development of manufacturing Drawings, Bills of Materials, Routers, Work Instructions, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Control Plans, and Acceptance Test Procedures (ATPs) using manufacturing and assembly engineering best practices.
- Prepares quotations for labor, tooling, and equipment to support the business unit requirements for new and existing products.
- Performs product/process analysis and implements Continuous Improvement (CI) and Lean Manufacturing initiatives for cost reduction, scrap reduction, cycle time reductions, yield improvements, and increased overall production equipment efficiency.
- Evaluates, trouble shoots, and solves production problems on the shop floor, driving Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action (RCCA) processes.
- Leads and conducts PFMEAs on manufacturing processes, assembly methods, and production equipment with cross-functional teams.
- Plans, organizes, administers, reviews, and evaluates the work of professional, technical, support, and operational staff where present, through functional managers and lead workers
- Develops systems and maintains records that provide for the proper evaluation, control, and documentation of assigned activities; prepares a variety of written correspondence, reports, procedures, directives and other materials.
- Supports the conversion of small-scale processes into commercially viable large-scale operations.
- Writes and submits Capital Expenditure requests.
- Develops and coordinates in training all shop floor associates on manufacturing processes, assembly methods, and testing protocols.
- Assumes responsibility for the safety and environmental issues associated with the manufacturing processes, assembly methods, testing protocols, and production equipment.
Additional Duties:
- Leads and supervises the Engineering Co-Op program, including candidate selection and coaching throughout the program.
- Manufacturing estimates in collaboration with Business Development, Supply Chain Management, Design Engineering, Programs, and other functional groups to support proposals, RFQs, and the costs of changes.
- Serves as part of a Divisional Leadership Team in support of day to day operations, Policy Deployment, and strategic initiatives.
- Provide support for Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives, companywide.
- Other duties, reporting, special assignments, or projects as needed and assigned.
- Must remain current with, and complete all required training as assigned.
- Must adhere to Company Corporate EHS Policy and department, occupation, and task specific safety protocols, including but not limited to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
Qualifications:
- 15+ years' experience in a manufacturing environment.
- 10+ years' experience in an Engineering Management role.
- Significant knowledge of and experience in the development, implementation and maintenance of Engineering Management Tools and Systems.
- Significant New Product/Process Development experience
- Demonstrated Project management skills and experience
- Strong people development skills including experience working with engineers.
- Competence in management within a AS9100 quality management systems
- Demonstrated skills in execution of programs including Continuous Improvement, Six Sigma, Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing methodologies.
- Management/experience in managing and developing technical documentation including the developing/documenting of procedures.
- Occasional Travel outside of the office and potentially overnight around the globe.

- Extensive experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must be able to work well with subordinates, peers and superiors in all departments of the Company as well as customers, suppliers or other partners external to the company.
- Must submit to and satisfactorily pass any pre-employment screening required for employment with the Company.
- Must take medical exams required by law, in conjunction with occupation specific activities, the physical work environment, and ongoing industrial hygiene sampling results.
- Depending on assignment, may be required to use stairs, remain upright and/or seated for prolonged timeframes, intermittently reposition the body per various tasks performed, and use various tools and work-related supplies.
- May be required to perform manual lifting activities, not to exceed a 40lb lift performed by one individual.
Education:
- B.S. degree in Engineering or similarly related technical field (such as physics) required
- Demonstrated and ongoing educational work in technical, managerial, business or leadership skills.
