Vice President, Business Planning - Specialty Alloys Operations (SAO)

Position Summary

The Vice President, Business Planning - SAO is a strategic leader responsible for aligning commercial demand, operational execution, and long-term capacity planning across a complex, high-performance metals manufacturing organization. This role drives integrated business planning strategies to optimize asset utilization, customer delivery, financial accuracy, and sustainable growth. Acting as a connector across Commercial, Operations, Finance, Engineering, and Supply Chain, the VP ensures continuity between short-term production and long-term capital strategy while embedding world-class planning practices.

Position Key Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Execution

  • Lead manufacturing capacity strategies aligned with long-term growth and market shifts.
  • Own the annual investment roadmap for capacity and asset optimization.
  • Drive cross-functional business planning cycles to align strategic goals with operational outcomes.

Operational & Commercial Alignment

  • Foster collaboration across Commercial, Operations, and Finance to clarify demand signals and delivery commitments.
  • Optimize production plans and lead-time quoting strategies to exceed customer expectations.
  • Act as executive contact for performance-to-promise escalations and resolution.

Planning Systems & Data Ownership

  • Own the end-to-end Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning (SIOP) process.
  • Implement and enhance digital planning tools (IBP, SAP, Factory Planner).
  • Champion data integrity and analytics-driven decision-making.

Inventory & Forecasting

  • Oversee inventory governance, reporting, controls, and optimization.
  • Lead enterprise forecasting for sales, production volumes, inventory, and variable profit.
  • Align forecasts with financial planning and commercial demand.

Performance & Continuous Improvement

  • Track key KPIs: forecast accuracy, on-time delivery, inventory turns, capacity utilization.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives across planning and performance.
  • Monitor business performance and adjust plans proactively.

Position Requirements

  • Strategic Thinking: Translate enterprise goals into actionable plans.
  • Cross-functional Leadership: Influence across Commercial, Operations, and Finance.
  • Analytical Acumen: Interpret complex data across interdependent systems.
  • Financial Literacy: Understand cost drivers, profitability, and capital deployment.
  • Communication Excellence: Engage executives, peers, and frontline stakeholders.
  • Resilience & Agility: Respond to dynamic conditions with data-driven decisions.
  • Systems Expertise: Proficiency in IBP, SAP, Factory Planner, and SIOP tools.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations, Business, or related field (MBA preferred).
  • 15+ years in manufacturing, including 5+ years in senior leadership.
  • Proven success in capacity planning, SIOP implementation, and strategic planning.
  • Experience in metals or process-intensive industries preferred.
  • Familiarity with theory of constraints, lean planning, and integrated business processes.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Multi-site manufacturing experience with high complexity and intercompany dependencies.
  • Scenario planning using theory of constraints and translating outcomes into strategic actions.
  • Deep ERP systems knowledge and capacity management expertise across end-to-end supply chains.
