About the Job

The Health & Safety Manager is responsible for supporting the implementation and oversight of health and safety programs that align with JPI's safety-first culture. The Health & Safety Manager will play a key role in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, minimizing risks across all organizational locations, and fostering a safe working environment for our employees and trade partners.

This position is ideal for a hands-on, safety professional who thrives in a fast-paced construction/manufacturing environment and is passionate about promoting a proactive, collaborative approach to safety.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Safety Program Execution

  • Support the implementation and day-to-day management of JPI's health and safety programs across active construction sites, shops, warehouses, and corporate offices.

  • Partner with Construction Managers, Superintendents, Safety Consultants, and Trade Partners to promote and maintain a culture of health and safety.

  • Conduct safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments to ensure compliance with JPI's safety standards and all applicable regulations.

  • Lead the development, delivery, and implementation of safety training, toolbox talks, onboarding programs, and safety communication campaigns.

Incident Response & Investigation

  • Respond to safety incidents, near misses, and injuries; lead root cause analyses and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.

  • Maintain accurate records of safety incidents, investigations, and corrective actions.

  • Support coordination with HR and Legal regarding workers' compensation cases and reporting requirements.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, federal, state, and local health and safety regulations.

  • Lead the preparation for inspections and audits by regulatory agencies.

  • Stay current on regulatory updates, changes, and trends; recommend updates to internal policies as needed.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Serve as a safety resource and advisor to departmental teams, leadership, and internal stakeholders.

  • Build strong working relationships across departments to promote alignment and accountability for safety practices.

  • Participate in safety committee meetings, incident reviews, and project planning sessions.

Oversight of Safety Consultants

  • Directly oversee and manage third-party safety consultants, ensuring alignment with JPI's safety standards and expectations.

  • Provide regular communication, guidance, and support to Safety Consultants to ensure consistent safety practices and reporting.

  • Review and evaluate consultant reports, follow up on identified issues, close out reports, and escalate concerns as needed.

Data Management & Reporting

  • Track safety metrics, including incident rates, near misses, and safety observations.

  • Produce regular KPI metrics reporting to the VP, Health & Safety, and leadership with data-driven recommendations for improvement.

  • Assist with required state and federal safety reporting, including OSHA logs.

Non-essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education, Work Experience, & Physical Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Construction Management, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred.

  • 5 to 8 years of experience in construction safety, field safety, or EHS roles, preferably within multifamily or commercial construction.

  • Must be able to travel to various job sites, both locally and out of state.

  • OSHA 30 certification required.

  • CHST, CSP, or similar certifications strongly preferred or must be obtained within 1 year of employment.

  • Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and other applicable safety regulations.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct safety audits, facilitate training, and lead incident investigations.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence behavior and build trust across teams.

  • Ability to work independently, travel to inspection locations, and adapt to varying site conditions and schedules.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management systems/software.
