Summary


Redwire Space Missions has a current opportunity for a Contractor - Embedded, Software Test Engineer for up to 6 months in our Jacksonville, FL facility. In this role you will focus on Embedded Software Test and Verification to design and implement new systems and features, as well as modify and maintain existing systems for adaptation to business and/or technology changes. The senior software engineer engages with management, development teams, technical delivery teams, and customers to ensure the successful design, development, and delivery of technology-based solutions, with a focus on digital engineering processes and procedures, space digital design and development experience or analysis for space applications. The applicant will be expected to provide full life cycle (requirements, design, development, and testing) software engineering for space and test systems and assist with developing and maintaining build processes for these systems. The applicant will be expected to fulfill a leadership position in guiding, instructing, and mentoring other junior engineers in best practices, policies and procedures, coding standards, and task management. Candidate will support Redwire's modular architecture approach, must be proficient in C/C++, and possess a clear understanding of software principles and object-oriented analysis, design, and development. U.S. Citizenship is required.
Responsibilities


  • Developing software and test applications based on customer requirements
  • Serving as a technical lead, contributing to and directing the efforts of development teams.
  • Providing on-site operational support, implementation guidance, and special test activities.
  • Overseeing the development of product and user documentation.
  • Engage in all phases of the software development lifecycle, which includes software requirements, design, development, integration, test, and maintenance
  • Communicating key project data to team members and management
  • Applying best practices and standard operating procedures.
  • Creating innovative solutions to meet our company's technical needs.
  • Developing and executing software tests, as well as correcting software bugs.
  • Mentoring junior developers through advice, coaching, and occasional training opportunities


Ideal Experience


  • Bachelor's Degree in computer engineering, science, software engineering, or other related field
  • Experience with multiple programming languages, including C, C++, and Python
  • Familiarity with Linux-based open-source development tools
  • Perform protocol-level validation (IC, SPI, UART, CAN, USB) with analyzers
  • Experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, and power supplies
  • Previous experience with embedded software development and software test
  • Must be U.S. Citizen
  • Limited travel required


Desired Skills


  • Preferred 5 or more years of experience in embedded software engineering, software development, or a related field
  • Experience working with Flight Hardware and developing Flight Software
  • Experience building software on embedded targets
  • Familiarity with the aerospace industry
  • Experience with Git or similar version control tools
  • Read and interpret schematics, PCB layouts, and datasheets
  • Strong understanding of MCU architecture, registers, and clock systems
  • Proficient with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, and power supplies
  • Skilled in JTAG/SWD debugging, breakpoints, and register inspection
  • Experience with GPIO/peripheral bring-up, power sequencing, and reset logic
  • Diagnose signal integrity, EMI, grounding, and power issues
  • Perform in-circuit and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) debugging and testing
  • Develop and execute test plans, cases, and regression tests for embedded systems
  • Use unit testing frameworks (GoogleTest, Unity) and CI pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI)
  • Conduct firmware validation, fault injection, and stress testing
  • Analyze crash logs, stack traces, and fault registers for root-cause isolation
  • Apply code coverage and static analysis tools (gcov, Coverity, Valgrind)
  • Document debug logs, validation results, and test reports clearly and consistently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; the ability to professionally communicate and coordinate with a wide range of external program sponsors as well as internal management
  • Sound time management skills, attention to detail, and priority management to meet deadlines
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance
