ZSFG Clinical Laboratory - QA
Job Summary The Clinical Laboratory at Zuckerberg San Francisco General provides laboratory testing services for inpatients and outpatients of ZSFG, Laguna Honda Hospital, District Health Centers, and other facilities under the auspices of the SF Public Health Department. Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Administrative Director and Division Directors, this position provides supervision of the Quality Assurance Division staff and activities. The QA Manager is responsible for providing the administrative oversight for Quality Assurance and related activities for all sections of the Clinical Laboratory, including Blood Bank, Core Laboratory (Chemistry, Toxicology, and Hematology), Microbiology, Point-of-Care Testing, and Specimen Collection and Management. Involves leading the Quality Assurance (QA) and Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) Division of the UCSF Clinical Laboratory at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG). Manages a team in the development, implementation, coordination, and monitoring of laboratory quality systems for each laboratory section, as well as effective oversight of the point-of-care. Serves as an expert resource related to clinical laboratory quality and point-of-care. Ensures that quality and point-of-care activities are compliant with Federal and State regulatory requirements and laboratory accreditation standards. Provides reports to the administrative director, medical and technical directors, as needed. Develops and maintains effective working relationships among laboratory personnel and other hospital departments to ensure a culture of safety. Involves testing on clinical specimens to gather information about a patient's health for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.
Collaborate and coordinate with the various divisions of the Laboratory, other ZSFG departments, affiliated hospitals, health centers, clinics, and outreach clients. Important job functions include ensuring optimal quality, safety, and efficiency in all supervised activities, as well as compliance with regulatory requirements. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $121,9000 - $277,100 (Annual Rate). Department Description The UCSF Clinical Laboratory (CL) at Zuckerberg San Francisco General (ZSFG) provides laboratory testing services for inpatients and outpatients of ZSFG, Laguna Honda Hospital, District Health Centers and other facilities under the auspices of the San Francisco Public Health Department.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution
- Current Clinical Laboratory Scientist License for the State of California
- 5+ years of directly relevant experience in a high-complexity clinical lab, including recent supervisory or managerial experience in a moderate and high-complexity clinical lab
- Minimum 3+ years of lead/supervisor/manager experience
- 2+ years of experience in point-of-care
- Maintains technical proficiency in laboratory techniques and procedures
- Proven ability to apply technical knowledge and skills to improve operations and management
- Knowledge of clinical laboratory, organization, HR, and UC policies and processes
- Knowledge of all relevant specialty areas, industry, health and safety, federal, and state regulations
- Leadership skills in employee supervision and HR administration to effectively lead and motivate others
- Conflict resolution skills to resolve personnel issues and counsel assigned staff to develop cooperative working relationships
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a complex, challenging environment.
- Flexibility to adapt to change
- Ability to organize division operations in an efficient and effective manner through improving Laboratory processes, procedures, and systems
- Skills to work collaboratively, coordinate, and integrate with others in other laboratories, departments, and throughout the organization

- Knowledge of laboratory application information systems
- Ability to analyze data using queries and visual review
- Familiarity with computer software applications, including LIS, MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), document control applications, and the Internet
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution or in a field directly related to clinical laboratory quality assurance (QA)

Familiarity with EP Evaluator
License/Certification
