Job Summary

This position is considered Flexible Rotation: The employee will work on a rotational schedule to ensure onsite coverage of key IT functions.

UCSF Health is seeking an experienced Technical Lead to support the Ambient Assistant Program Manager in expanding and optimizing AI-powered ambient assistant solutions. This role requires a high degree of technical expertise, particularly with Epic EHR and other healthcare applications, and the ability to solve complex, unique challenges that lack precedent or structure.

The Technical Lead will play a pivotal role in the design, integration, and implementation of AI-driven clinical documentation tools, working alongside IT, informatics, clinical, and operational leaders. This position offers an opportunity to work along side other experienced team members to manage technical strategies, system configurations, and performance optimizations to enhance staff efficiency and patient care.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $138,400 - $207,600 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

UCSF Health Information Technology is responsible for the UCSF electronic health record software, Epic, also known as Apex (Advancing Patient-Centered Excellence) for UCSF hospitals, practices, affiliates and community partners, as well as other health related systems.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in health care information technology, computer science, or related area, and/or equivalent combination of experience/training.
  • 4 years minimum experience configuring Epic
  • Epic Certification in at least one application
  • Strong background in system integration, software deployment, and performance optimization.
  • Knowledge of AI governance, compliance, and regulatory considerations in healthcare.
  • Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of how system management actions affect other systems, system users and dependent/related functions. Experience with health data integration using APIs, sFTP, and some knowledge of HL7 interfaces
  • Familiarity with data quality and governance issues and requirements.
  • Proven ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and solve complex technical problems in a dynamic healthcare setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of various areas of Health IT.
  • Assess and integrate AI assistant tools with Epic EHR workflows, ensuring seamless interoperability and user adoption.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with clinical, IT, informatics, and operational teams to implement technology solutions.
  • Ability to write technical documentation in a clear and concise manner.
  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Works independently and as part of a team. Demonstrated problem-solving skills. Ability to learn effectively and meet deadlines. Demonstrated skill leading technical teams, including organizing workflow and scheduling assignments. Ability to work independently on complex technical projects as well as on a team of technical professionals and departmental decision-makers.

Preferred Qualifications


  • 2 years experience integrating platforms using APIs
  • Demonstrated project management skills.

License/Certification


  • Epic Certification in at least one application
