Hiring Range:

$119,912.00 - $152,131.20

The UMass Memorial Medical Center Epilepsy Clinic is seeking an experienced and motivated Advanced Practice Provider (APP) - Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) - to join our growing team. The APP will conduct comprehensive health assessments, diagnose and manage patients with epilepsy and related neurological conditions, and provide highquality patient care in collaboration with attending physicians and the multidisciplinary care team.

This role offers a high level of autonomy, professional growth, and the opportunity to work with cuttingedge treatments including VNS, RNS, and DBS modalities.

Major Responsibilities

  • Provide diagnostic, assessment, and treatment services in the Epilepsy Clinic.
  • Obtain and document patient histories, perform comprehensive physical examinations, and order/interpret diagnostic tests.
  • Formulate differential diagnoses and partner with physicians to develop and implement patientcentered care plans.
  • Manage acute and chronic conditions in accordance with established protocols.
  • Reassess and modify care plans based on clinical response and communicate outcomes with supervising physicians.
  • Participate in the delineation of privileges process, including medication prescribing (Schedules II-VI per state regulations for NP or PA scope).
  • Deliver patient education and coordinate transitions of care, including admissions and discharges.
  • Collaborate with internal and external care providers, specialists, and community agencies.
  • Assist with procedures within scope and established protocols (e.g., OR support, endoscopic assistance).
  • Participate in department initiatives such as oncall coverage and rotating weekend responsibilities.
  • Maintain departmentspecific competencies and support quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Required

  • For Nurse Practitioners:
    • Master's or doctoral degree
    • Graduate of an accredited NP program
    • National board certification
    • Current Massachusetts NP license and prescriptive authority
  • For Physician Assistants:
    • Graduate of an accredited PA program
    • Current NCCPA certification
    • Current Massachusetts PA license
    • Eligibility for prescriptive authority in Massachusetts

Preferred

  • 3-5 years of Advanced Practice experience; Neurology/Epilepsy experience strongly preferred
  • Ability to see urgent patients and manage incoming clinical tasks and documentation requests
  • Experience or willingness to learn management of VNS, RNS, and DBS devices
  • Ability to coordinate presurgical epilepsy evaluations
  • Interest in supporting patient groups in collaboration with the Epilepsy Foundation of New England
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work with multiple providers and support staff
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

New hires are expected to complete departmentspecific competency training within 3 months; experienced APPs should complete this within 1-2 months.

  • Ambulatory clinic and hospitalbased settings
  • Primarily sedentary work within standard patient care and office environments
