Position Summary The Department of Pathology and Cell Biology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center seeks a qualified individual for the Cancer Cytogenetics Laboratory. The technologist will be expected to learn and perform all aspects of testing on cytogenetic specimens including sample processing of hematological specimens and paraffin-embedded tissues, resulting in karyotype and FISH analysis. Weekend hours may be necessary. Responsibilities 60% - Sample processing from set up to slide preparation. 25% - Perform chromosome analysis and FISH analysis on hematologic and paraffin-embedded tissue cancer specimens. 10% - Maintain laboratory quality control and assurance measures. Perform equipment maintenance. 5% - Other duties as assigned. Percentage is subject to change according to the needs of the laboratory Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience required. New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist licensure form the New York Dept of Education OR must be eligible for a NYS issued training certificate, permit or license Preferred Qualifications Strong verbal and written communication skills. Cytogenetic lab experience preferably in a cancer setting. ASCP licensure. Other Requirements Possesses appropriate computer skills to accomplish tasks.
