About the Office of the Provost:

The Office of the Provost furthers Georgia Tech's academic mission learning through teaching and research by providing the leadership, support, and services that enable the personal and intellectual growth of our students, faculty, staff, and the academic community.

The Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs is the chief academic officer of the Institute. All academic and related units, including the colleges, the library, and professional education, report to the Provost. Additionally, the Provost administers the budgets of these units.

The Provost oversees academic and budgetary policy and priorities, ensures the quality of the student body, and maintains educational excellence. In addition, the Provost also has oversight responsibility for issues associated with the recruiting, hiring, retention, and performance of faculty and academic administrators and for the Institute's promotion.

Office of Undergraduate Education and Student Success (OUESS)

This position supports the Office of Undergraduate Education and Student Success under the Office of the Provost and requires close collaboration with a variety of stakeholders, constituents, and administrators. In addition to reviewing and approving financial transactions and reconciling accounts, the Accountant will also be responsible for offering financial guidance to unit administrators.

Job Summary

The Accountant is responsible for overseeing accounting functions, analysis and reconciliation of financial transactions; examination, investigation, audit and review of records, reports, financial statements, information systems, and management practices to ensure compliance with regulations and policies and efficient and effective operations; This role is critical in developing and implementing procedures to ensure uniform accounting practices, internal controls, and compliance with federal, state, local regulations and Institute policies.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 - Analyze, reconcile, balance, and maintain accounting records.

Job Duty 9 - Evaluate the effectiveness of established accounting procedures, internal controls, efficiency of operations and accuracy of reports and records and recommends changes as needed.

Job Duty 10 - Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Job Duty 2 - Analyze expenditures for appropriateness and compliance within each individual requirement such as research contracts and other general accounts.

Job Duty 3 - Interpret Institute, University System of Georgia (USG), state, and/or federal regulations to ensure that pertinent information is disseminated to appropriate Institute offices and ensure compliance.

Job Duty 4 - Conduct financial analysis of projects and prepares special reports.

Job Duty 5 - Prepare and posts journal entries; Performs monthly, quarterly, and year end closings.

Job Duty 6 - Lead and/or supports the development, implementation, and maintenance of internal fiscal systems and procedures, applying basic and advanced concepts, methods, and techniques of accounting.

Job Duty 7 - Review and analyze Institute procedures for compliance with various internal and external regulations and policies.

Job Duty 8 - Develop procedures to keep management updated on the financial and contractual status of projects.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in related discipline or equivalent, related experience; advanced certification may be preferred or required (some profiles may require additional education).

Required Experience
Four or more years of relevant job experience.

  • Must possess a professional demeanor with exceptional organizational, written and oral communication skills, while building relationships, maintaining customer service and networking.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and manage multiple tasks/priorities, while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
  • Highly motivated, demonstrates initiative, positive attitude, and possesses the ability to work with a broad range of internal and external constituents.
  • Proficiency in Workday Financials, PeopleSoft HR (OneUSG), and advanced Excel skills.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS
This job requires application of advanced accounting principles and practices as they relate to recording and reporting financial transactions and related data within university business units. Analytical and problem solving skills are needed as is advanced use of business and accounting related computer applications.
