The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for the implementation, management, and continuous improvement of occupational safety, industrial hygiene, emergency response, contractor management, waste, and environmental programs at the Veolia site in Addison, IL. The position is responsible for ensuring that the site activities are compliant with regulatory and Veolia requirements. The EHS Specialist will work closely with all site teams and personnel to identify risks within the chemical
manufacturing and associated operations and develop and implement mitigation strategies. The position will also collaborate heavily with Veolia corporate EHS teams. DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
- The EHS Specialist will provide direction and assistance to the work groups to meet assigned objectives. The position will work within defined parameters to make decisions, apply concepts to issues of moderated complexity, and resolve issues through immediate action or short-term planning.
- Act as the site's first point of contact and technical expert on all matters related to EHS, including regulatory compliance, Veolia programs, and industry best practices.
- Provide leadership, technical support, training and project management for the development of plant-wide EHS programs and annual plans.
- Initiate and influence integration of related policies and practices into plant operations and work closely with all employees to harmonize them with shop floor activities.
- Manage the following EHS programs and processes for the Addison site
- Compliance tracking and regulatory submittals
- ISO 14001 program
- Waste programs: Tracking, manifests, profiles, and field execution of shipments tasks
- Regulatory inspections and related tracking (e.g. SWPP, RCRA)
- EHS training: Administration of the computer-based training system, assessment of training needs, and the generation and delivery of content
- Emergency Response: Maintain plan and coordinate drills, tabletops, training, and relationships with local emergency responders
- Forklifts: Initial and refresher training
- EHS databases: SDSs, MOCs, incidents, compliance calendar, Frameworks (internal safety management system)
- PPE program: Assess needs, specify requirements for site tasks, evaluate new options, and work with suppliers to manage inventories
- Safety Risk Assessments (SRA): Facilitate and update these assessments for standard work tasks and educate employees on the relevant risks and mitigations.
- Industrial hygiene and respirator programs
- Contractor Safety Programs: EHS screening, on-site safety training, safety performance
- Champion behavioral safety programs and employee driven safety team & initiatives.
- Maintain general knowledge of existing and proposed regulations

Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 2+ years of EHS experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting
- Working knowledge of hazards and controls for high-risk activities, including hazardous material handling, control of hazardous energy, confined space, excavation/trenching, lifting operations, hot work, working at heights, and electrical work
- Deep understanding of work permitting and job safety analysis (JSA)
- Knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulatory requirements
- Familiarity with industry safety standards, including NFPA, ANSI, and NEC standards
- Understanding of chemical manufacturing processes and associated hazards, including flammability, toxicity, reactivity, corrosivity, etc.
- Initiative to drive continuous improvement in occupational safety programs
- Experience conducting safety training
- Fluent in English, with strong oral and written communication skills to interpret OSHA, and other regulations and liaise with a variety of stakeholders
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification
- EHS experience in a chemical manufacturing facility
- Experience developing emergency response plans and leading table-top drills
- Experience in ISO 14000
- Familiarity with Gensuite, SAP, and Google Workspace

* Compensation - The salary range is tied to the market for similarly benchmarked roles. The range is
not an absolute, but a guide, and offers will be based on the individual candidate's knowledge, skills,
experience, and market conditions, as well as internal peer equity. Depending upon all the preceding
considerations for the final selected individual candidate, the offer may be lower or higher than the
stated range:$70,000-$80,000 USD
