About This Role

The purpose of this position is to perform duties relevant to the daily activities of the Kansas Artificial Breeding Service Unit's Collection, Laboratory and Housing facilities.

This position will be expected to collect bovine semen samples from bulls located at the Kansas Artificial Breeding Unit facility and from bulls on client ranches using recognized industry procedures for maximizing sperm harvest. The incumbent will also assist with the daily feeding, care and management of all bulls that are housed at the KSU (KABSU) Kansas Artificial Breeding Unit. This position will also be recording the health activity for each animal at KABSU on a daily basis and reviewed by the Facility Manager.

The Department of Animal Sciences and Industry (ASI) serves students, livestock producers and the animal and food industries through teaching, research and education. The Dept. of ASI prepares students for careers in the animal and food industries.

The curriculum includes the study of nutrition, reproduction, genetics, behavior, meat science and food science with production, management, and agribusiness skills. Students are given sound professional and scientific skills, a broad education and experience for contributing to our communities across the nation and abroad. Students receive excellent advisement and mentorship from faculty and professional staff and participate in extracurricular activities to develop skills to become industry leaders.

This position is On-site.

All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.


What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:



  • * Requires a high school diploma.



Preferred Qualifications:



  • * Bachelor's degree
    * Experience working with cattle producers, veterinarians and breed associations,
    * Practical experience with cattle production and management.
    * Working knowledge of current information technology applications to provide electronic records and customer communications (website and social media)


Preferred licenses / registrations / certifications:



  • * Valid Driver's License


Additional Role Information:



  • * Work involves physical handling of bulls. Work involves both indoor and outdoor environments (all seasons including adverse winter conditions).
