Job Summary


The Nurse Practitioner's clinical time is focused at the AHP Services Center on 1930 Market St, San Francisco. In this role, the NP will serve as a clinician working within a team consisting of mission-driven case managers, therapists, peer counselors and experts in sexual health and substance use disorders. The NP will provide clinical assessment, psychopharmacological treatment and appropriate disposition for a caseload of patients with supervision provided by AHP's Medical Director along with guidance provided by clinical leaders within the organization.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $100.48 - $130.31 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The Alliance Health Project (AHP) is a community-based LGBTQ+ and HIV-focused clinic located at 1930 Market Street in San Francisco. We provide psychotherapy, substance use counseling, case management, support groups, psychiatry, sexual health services, clinical traineeship, and provider education and training. Our multi-disciplinary staff are a client-centered, collaborative, Harm Reduction-oriented team. We have continued to grow as a community-based clinic by anticipating and addressing the changing needs of our LGBTQ+ and HIV community members for more than 40 years. Our process of continuous improvement of service to our community includes a strong focus on cultural humility and anti-racist service provision.

The Alliance Health Project (AHP) is a division of the UCSF Department of Psychiatry at Zuckerberg San Francisco General (ZSFG). We are seeking a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) interested in serving people living with complex trauma, minority stress, dual diagnoses, primary substance use disorders and severe mental illness. This is an opportunity that allows for hybrid work (remote and on-site work) with the use of HIPAA compliant telehealth tools and resources provided by UCSF. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner selected will join a skilled and collegial mental health team at AHP's clinical site.

Required Qualifications


  • A minimum of two years experience treating patients with serious mental illness, preferably patients with a dual diagnosis (substance use/mental illness).

Preferred Qualifications


  • Prior experience at UCSF or other UC, or prior ZSFG experience.
  • Ability to provide treatment in English and Spanish.

License/Certification


  • California Registered Nurse (RN) License without restriction
  • California Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) without restriction
  • California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number including Schedule II furnishing privileges
  • NP national board certification from an accepted certifying agency aligned with the patient population and clinical role Psychiatric and Mental Health Care (PMHNP-BC).
  • California Driver License (if required for position)
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration with Schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 registered to a California address
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Additional required AHA certifications: None additional to BLS
  • Additional required certifications (such as ENLS): None

UCSF Medical Center and Campus require certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
