Essential Job Duties
The Department of Horticulture is seeking a Lecturer. This position includes a combination of teaching, academic advising, student mentoring, and program coordination responsibilities. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to student success, experiential learning, and industry engagement.
Primary Responsibilities:
Teaching Duties:

  • Teach 5-7 courses annually (up to 21 credit hours) across a 12-month appointment. Courses may serve students in both the AAS and Bachelor's degree programs.
  • Deliver instruction using face-to-face, online, and hybrid modalities, incorporating innovative teaching methods and current technologies.
  • Lead instruction in courses such as:

    • Landscape Maintenance
    • Landscape Construction
    • Nursery and Ornamental Plant Production
    • Introduction to Horticulture
    • Career Preparedness and Development



  • Additional courses as aligned with departmental needs and candidate expertise

Serve As:

  • Agricultural Institute Horticultural Science Management Coordinator
  • Horticulture Field Lab Teaching Projects Area Coordinator
  • Co-advise the Horticulture Competition Team.

Other Responsibilities
Other Duties May Include
  • Participate in departmental service activities, including:

    • Academic advising and student mentoring
    • Student recruitment and outreach events
    • Fundraising initiatives and alumni engagement
    • Departmental and university committees



Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in Horticulture, Agricultural Education, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching. This may be evidenced by:

    • Course evaluations
    • Student feedback
    • Sample curricular materials or teaching demonstrations




Other Required Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Communication skills, both written and verbal

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three years of teaching experience
  • Experience in and knowledge of the production, cultivation, and identification of ornamental plants
  • Ability to develop curriculum, courses, and assessments
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate distance education technologies
  • Ability to contribute to student recruitment, program promotion, and outreach activities.

Required License(s) or Certification(s)

  • Valid Driver's License and the ability to obtain an NC Driver's Licence within 60 days of hire. A valid Driver's Licence must be maintained throughout employment.


The position will need to drive independently to Horticulture Field Labs ( HFL) and other sites for field trips.
