Requirements



  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • 10+ years experience as a crane mechanic on STS cranes. Must include ZPMC or Sumitomo.
  • 5+ years experience using a computer based CMMS software.
  • Valid US state driver's license.
  • Obtain and maintain TWIC card issued by the Department of Homeland Security.
  • Must be proficient in comprehending, speak and write the English language.
  • Ability to work overtime as well as on weekends or on call duty.
  • Proficient in use of PC based email, navigate online training/ timesheet entry, utilize PC based CMMS system for work orders.
  • Ability to obtain, maintain and keep organized basic set of mechanics hand and air tools at least up to 1 1/2" wrenches, sockets, metric, and standard.


Competency



  • Ensure tidiness and cleanliness of workshop facilities and all equipment.
  • Conform to all safety rules and regulations.
  • Utilize Ports America CMMS software (Mainpac) to create, comment & close work orders. Assign work hours and items from inventory to work orders. Create requisitions and receive orders.
  • Ability to operate material handling equipment.
  • Deliver and position equipment for various stevedoring activities, remain on site to perform emergency repairs during vessel/terminal operations.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on STS cranes. Includes cleaning, lubricating, greasing, chipping and painting, changing crane wire ropes, renewing light bulbs, cleaning out pin and tie down sockets.
  • Submit routine and critical inspection and monitoring reports, ensuring all paperwork is accurate and up to date.
  • Provide daily activity reports, and other written reports on equipment, as needed, with accuracy and completeness.
  • Ability to safely operate all power tools and equipment utilized in electrical and mechanical repairs, installation of hydraulic and electromechanical systems, diagnosis and troubleshooting systems.
  • Experience with rigging and safe moving of heavy loads and equipment
  • Pass training for OSHA and Company Safety Training (e.g., Lock-out/Tag-out, Hazardous Materials, etc.).
  • Expert proficiency in reading, understanding, and interpreting operating manuals, parts manuals, blueprints, wiring schematics and technical drawings.
  • Ensure that the maintenance, breakdown services, and/or electrical/electronic repairs of STS Cranes are maintained in a cost-effective manner, with consideration given to quality work and longevity of equipment.
  • Expert knowledge and experience working on STS crane system including but not limited to: structural systems, gantry, boom, trolley, hoist, catenaries, wire ropes & reeving systems, spreader, hydraulics, elevators, load cells, electrical and drive systems, PLC control systems, communication systems, motors, gear reducers, couplings, safety devices, lighting systems.
  • Ability to develop maintenance and repair procedures.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors. Coordinate outside vendors as needed to support repairs, conduct specialized monitoring or preventative maintenance, or to complete crane upgrades.
  • Identify and lead efforts to proactively address and repair STS crane items or upgrade STS crane systems as needed.
  • Manage and oversee parts inventory, ensuring appropriate level of in stock items, items are appropriately maintained in stock, and items are appropriately checked out for use.
  • Oversee crane organization, cleanliness, tool usage, equipment staging, and environmental considerations.
  • Ensure repairs are meeting industry standards and company quality standards. Holds other crane technicians accountable to meet standards of quality.
  • Ensures applicable regulatory inspections and required documentation for STS cranes is completed and maintained.
  • Address challenges that arise during operations, making quick decisions to keep workflow smooth and efficient.
  • Foster teamwork among staff members, promoting a collaborative work environment for optimal productivity and performance.
  • Responsible for an expert understanding and working knowledge or all OSHA, ANSI, CMAA, and other codes or regulations pertaining to our industry. Must be able to get specific regulations if requested.
  • Ability to read, fully understand, and modify Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) ladder logic and block logic.


Physical Requirements



  • Climb up and down on equipment and ladders.
  • Work in changing hot and cold climates based on weather conditions.
  • Work in an environment that may be hazardous to a person unable to see and hear fast moving equipment.
  • Stand long periods of time.
  • Lift, push and or pull up to 50lbs.
  • Balancing and maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces.
  • Crawling and crouching to get under, between and below equipment.
  • Dexterity for picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers.
  • Walking on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
