Description

Operates and maintains stationary engines and mechanical equipment such as natural gas fired boilers, water softeners, de-alkalizers, reverse osmosis units, condensate pumps, air compressors and related equipment, cooling towers, etc. Adjusts various controls and regulators and performs repairs necessary to insure efficient performance. Tends boilers supplying steam for heating and processing while maintaining specified pressures and temperatures. Observes boilers and auxiliary units to detect malfunctions. Monitors emissions to meet environmental regulations. Monitors and repairs steam equipment in various facilities. Follows Steelcase safety guidelines in the operation of all boilers and related equipment. Performs powerhouse housekeeping activities.

Note: Required to obtain a Grand Rapids Operator or Engineer license and valid boiler operator license

Required Specifications:

* High School diploma or equivalent with a GPA 2.5 or above

* Excellent attendance, performance in prior positions

* Proficient with computers and various computer programs

* Must be able to meet assessment standards for the position

* Ability to work in high/confined areas

* Ability to work on or around machinery

* Ability to rotate shifts and plants during the four (4) year, 8,000 hour, apprenticeship program

* Attendance required at Grand Rapids Community College during off-working hours to complete academic requirements

* Ability to work other than normal work hours which may include weekends, holidays, etc.

* Individual must be self-motivated and able to accept and retain information through continuous leaning and training
