Description
Primary responsibilities and objectives of the position:
Required to work under minimal supervision. Builds, repairs, rebuilds, and trouble shoots dies, fixtures, tools and machines from prints or instruction to meet required tolerances and customer expectations. Able to troubleshoot and repair production dies fixtures and tooling as needed to avoid production delays and maintain tooling per the Steelcase Quality System. Able to accurately read prints, use shop math and use problem solving skills to bring projects to completion. Build service or repair tooling using precision hand tools, lathes, grinders, mills (CNC), saws, drill presses, welders, large overhead cranes and fork lifts. Must have a high degree of mechanical ability and knowledge and be able to determine whether tooling and specialized equipment can be repaired in production or should be returned to the tool room for major repairs. Must be knowledgeable on the proper application and installation of die and press sensors. Must have a knowledge of and ability to apply Steelcase Die Standards. Must know and follow established safety procedures.
* High School diploma or equivalent - requires a GPA 2.5 or above
* Excellent prior work record (attendance, performance, etc.)
* Proficient with computers and various computer programs
* Must be able to meet assessment standards for the position
* Ability to work in high/confined areas
* Ability to work on or around machinery
* Ability to rotate shifts and plants during the four (4) year, 8,000-hour DOL apprenticeship program
* Attendance required at Grand Rapids Community College during off-working hours to complete academic requirements
* Ability to work other than normal work hours and may include weekends, holidays, etc.
* Individual must be self-motivated and able to accept and retain information through continuous leaning and training
