Position Purpose:

The Facilities Intern will be supporting the Facilities department by analyzing and improving key components of Lindt's chocolate production equipment. The Facilities department is responsible for keeping our 1 million square foot factory running efficiently while constantly improving processes and equipment performance. This internship will expose you to chocolate production processes, mechanical component analysis, building infrastructure, robotics, and so much more. Within this role you will be tasked with analyzing the failure of machine components, developing new prototypes, calculating the efficiency of systems, and performing data analysis. This role will combine your engineering and mathematical skills to help Lindt create the world's best chocolate!

What To Expect as a Lindtern:

Our twelve-week Lindternship program offers hands-on experience allowing undergraduate and graduate students to gain practical skills and contribute to projects that directly impact our business. During the summer, interns will be paired with a mentor, attend professional career development workshops/sessions and attend networking events to meet additional team members.


Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

Weak Component Analysis



  • Utilize mechanical engineering principles such as material composition, load and stress analysis, and fatigue failure analysis to determine failure mode of component(s)
  • Redesign or propose a potential improvement and fabricate prototype
  • Install and monitor prototype performance in the system against a verifiable success criterion



Thermodynamic Efficiency Analysis



  • Identify all installed components and calculate ideal system performance of a building/process utility system
  • Calculate actual system performance and calculate the efficiency ratio
  • Identify biggest areas of loss and propose corrective actions



Parts Priority Number



  • Gain knowledge of Lindt's manufacturing processes to identify the most essential equipment in the factory
  • Analyze historical spare parts usage data
  • Combine the equipment knowledge with the usage data to develop a parts priority number (PPN)


Qualifications & Requirements:

Experience:



  • Prior internship experience preferred but not required


  • Demonstrated proficiency with a computer and with MS software


Skills & Knowledge:



  • Knowledge of engineering principles
  • Strong mathematical skills


Education:



  • Be a Junior or Senior enrolled in an accredited University Degree Program - Preferably with a focus on Mechanical Engineering, other STEM degrees may apply

  • Onsite role only



Total Rewards:

Compensation Range: $20 an hour
