Cost Engineer
Location: Indianapolis, IN (Full-Time, On-Site)
Pay Range: $68-$72 Overview:
Our client is seeking Cost Engineer to support cost management, auditing, and field-based financial oversight on a large-scale construction program. This position will be based on site, working closely with project teams to manage budgets, analyze quantities, monitor costs, and ensure financial accuracy throughout all phases of construction.
Key Responsibilities
Consult with internal teams to understand project requirements and objectives
Conduct feasibility studies and cost analyses to vet proposed projects
Calculate quantities, costs, and timeframes for materials, labor, and construction activities
Prepare tender packages, contracts, and bills of quantities
Support or lead RFP processes including bid solicitation, leveling, negotiation, and recommendation to award (RTA)
Collaborate with procurement and contract management teams to resolve contractual matters
Assist project managers with budgeting, forecasting, and financial tracking
Maintain complete documentation of contracts, approvals, and supporting materials in company repositories
Monitor and manage scope changes, risk, and cost impacts
Coordinate with project controls and finance to align CAPEX procurement with project cost tracking
Evaluate subcontractor and supplier performance and approve payment applications
Conduct value engineering and life-cycle cost analyses to optimize project spend
Prepare detailed cost reports, progress updates, and variance analyses
Ensure compliance with relevant construction regulations, standards, and quality requirements
Provide guidance on claims, disputes, and contractual issues
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or related field
5-10 years of relevant experience in cost management, quantity surveying, or field engineering on large construction projects
Strong understanding of cost control, estimating, budgeting, and procurement within construction environments
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Project, and other cost management software tools
Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills
Knowledge of construction contracts, laws, and industry best practices
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for coordination with field teams, clients, and vendors
Professional accreditation such as MRICS (or equivalent) preferred
