Overview

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities Maintenance or designee, the HVAC/R Mechanic supports and repairs complex HVAC/R systems on campus. The ideal candidate possesses a strong HVAC/R background including repairs, preventive maintenance and installations.



Responsibilities

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Perform maintenance and repair of HVAC systems including chillers, roof top units, and geothermal heat pump units that do not require a refrigeration license.
  • Test HVAC systems for leaks and ensure proper refrigerant levels and system operation.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and perform necessary repairs to packaged humidifiers, mini splits, heat pumps, and other assigned equipment.
  • Set up and minor repairs of kitchen refrigerators, freezers.
  • Repair and/or perform preventive maintenance of walk-in coolers, warm rooms, environmental rooms.
  • Repair ice machines, humidifiers, process chill water loops, environmental room alarms, phone dialers, and equipment monitoring alarm systems.
  • Install humidifiers and ice machines.
  • Complete appropriate documentation ensuring accuracy of data for accreditation and compliance purposes.
  • Maintain refrigerant recovery records.
  • Must be able to use computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for work assignments and or performing tasks and recording time and work completion.
  • Maintain spare parts inventory and anticipate future needs.
  • Assist in researching and ordering parts.
  • Attending all required training.
  • Ensure materials and equipment requirements are at site to complete work in an efficient manner.
  • Conform to codes, rules, regulations and safety standards associated with the trade.
  • Handle rigging requirements in moving and relocating HVAC equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections, documents time and material consumed in performance of this work.
  • While in the performance of routine duties; may be required, as needed to perform all work associated with all maintenance trades of an equal or lower graded classification, where the work or task does not require a specific license.
  • Assist licensed technicians as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.


Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Trade school graduate, or equivalent experience
  • 3 years of experience in domestic and commercial HVAC repairs and installation
  • P.A Universal Recovery Certificate
  • Hot Work Certificate or the ability to obtain in 3 months
  • Knowledge of tools, gases, hazards, and safety precautions particular to the HVAC/R trade.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret drawings, sketches, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Effective communication skills - verbal and written
  • Ability to travel to off-site locations

PREFERRED QUALIFIFATIONS:

  • Experience with Microprocessors, PLC boards, and Variable Compressors
