POSITION PURPOSE
The Technical Project Manager (TPM) oversees the planning, execution, and delivery of complex software and technology projects in a health research setting. Ensures projects are completed on time, within scope, and on budget, while maintaining high standards of quality and research customer/stakeholder satisfaction.

POSITION ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Related responsibilities include:


  • Leads and manages the full project lifecycle from initiation to closure for projects involving data and technical services projects that support research (e.g., involving real-world data modeling, standardization, integration, system design, and software development)

  • Collaborates with technical staff (e.g., data analysts, developers, systems engineers, information security), service leads, and research customer/stakeholders to define project scope, deliverables, timelines, and resource needs.

  • Translates business requirements into technical tasks, user stories, and timelines.

  • Creates and maintains project documentation, including project plans/charters, risk analyses, stakeholder registries, status reports, and after-action review.

  • Facilitates agile (e.g., daily standups, sprint planning) or traditional project execution based on project needs

  • Identifies project risks and proactively implement mitigation strategies.

  • Manages and communicates project status to organizational leadership and external partners, providing clear visibility into progress and potential roadblocks.

  • Coordinates cross-functional efforts, including integration with third-party systems or vendors as needed.

  • Ensures that technical teams are aligned with business priorities and deliver solutions that meet user needs.

  • Monitors budgets, resource allocation, and timelines to ensure project efficiency and effectiveness.



QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE


  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Requires at least three (3) years of experience in project management within a technical or software development environment.

  • Requires strong understanding of software development lifecycles (SDLC), Agile (Scrum/Kanban), and/or traditional project management methodologies (e.g., PMI/PMP). Technical knowledge sufficient to participate in architecture discussions, understand system integrations, and facilitate issue resolution.

  • Requires familiarity with tools like Jira, Confluence, Trello, Microsoft Project, or similar platforms.

  • Requires excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills.

  • Requires the ability to work effectively with cross-functional and distributed teams consisting of diverse groups of individuals


Preferred Qualifications


  • Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), or equivalent certification.

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) or enterprise IT environments.

  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools (CI/CD, Git, Jenkins, etc.).

  • Background in software engineering, systems administration, or business analysis is a plus.

  • Experience with research project management.


Work Environment & Expectations


  • Position is a hybrid position working mostly from a home office with occasional on-site work required.

  • May require occasional travel to meet with stakeholders or attend team offsites.

  • Must be able to manage multiple concurrent projects or initiatives.
