Description
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will Will provide clinical service and conduct clinical trial activities for patients at risk for and living with HIV (including but not limited to prescription and administration of antiretroviral and other drugs including injections for HIV and STI treatment, administration of vaccinations, treatment adherence counseling, directly observed therapy, support with clinical trial activities and coordination of care, etc). Collaborate with patient, family, treatment team, and research teams in developing coordinated plans of care and research activities. Assist with handling of medications and coordinate with the pharmacies including research pharmacy; provide counseling to patients and caregivers on optimal adherence to the treatment and study procedures. Be a specialty clinical resource for patients, families, research staff and the interdisciplinary care team. Engage and coordinate study activities with clinical trials unit, monitors and sponsors. Educate internal and external partners on active protocols and build relationships to facilitate participant referrals. Review and enter data in the clinical trial registries and databases. Work with the research team on the IRB process, including submission, approval, and modifications. Coordinate and conduct clinical trial visits and patient communications. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is credential by the medical staff and functions within their scope of practice in their jurisdictional area and in accordance with organizational medical staff bylaws. They are responsible for providing evidenced-based care for the management of patients, including assessment, implementation and evaluation of a detailed plan of care, which incorporates diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. The APP demonstrates competency in providing age-appropriate care to patients as defined by certification and training and provides family centered care to meet family needs, including psychological support, education and discharge planning in conjunction with other related disciplines.
The APP initiates, participates and collaborates with divisional and organizational multi-disciplinary staff to provide and support evidence-based education, quality improvement and research. They participate in professional and organizational activities that contribute to improving patient care, the scientific knowledge base of advanced practice, program operation, and individual professional development. The APP provides leadership within their respective clinical area through participation in division projects and mentorship of others. They contribute to department and organization wide initiatives, representing advanced practice and promoting the role of the advanced practice provider.
Qualifications
Minimum Education Master's Degree Nurse Practitioner Master's or Doctoral degree as a Nurse Practitioner from an accredited program and eligibility for medical staff credentialing required.
Physician Assistant Master's or Doctoral degree of Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited program and eligibility for medical staff credentialing required.
Clinical Nurse Specialist Master's or Doctorate degree in the clinical specialty area in which they practice from an accredited program and eligibility for medical staff credentialing required. (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge Strong knowledge of clinical specialty and services. Demonstrates clinical leadership skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Functional Accountabilities Clinical
- Assesses, diagnoses, and monitors clinical status of each patient utilizing evidenced based practice and medical knowledge.
- Develops appropriate plan of care.
- Writes patient care orders, prescribes therapy, and provides necessary home care orders as needed.
- Identifies significant changes in patient status using physical exam, lab values, diagnostic tests, and patient/family input.
- Differentiates between normal and abnormal findings.
- Performs procedures as needed after obtaining appropriate credentialing.
- Participates in and/ or leads multidisciplinary patient care.
- Is a clinical resource for patient, parents and the interdisciplinary team.
- Appropriately communicates and escalates clinical/administrative issues.
- Collaborates with nursing, medicine, and other members of the healthcare team to regularly ensure quality patient care.
Administrative
- Serves as a clinical preceptor to NP, CNS or PA students.
- Acts as a clinical resource for staff in patient care issues.
- Provides formal/informal educational presentation to staff on areas of expertise.
- Participates and leads quality improvement initiatives in their department.
