Job Summary

Independent of supervision, a staff veterinarian hired to enhance the success of the equine medicine service by providing advanced training to residents in equine medicine by fulfilling the training learning objectives, as well as to provide instruction on equipment use (dentistry equipment; ultrasound; and radiography). Introduce new residents to the equine medicine service and clients to allow best continuity of care for equine clients and their horses in the Equine Medicine Service. Participate in residents' candidate interviews for the equine medicine residency, scheduling residents' activities, participate in continuing education lectures and topic rounds for residents, interns, and students rotating in equine internal medicine. As a staff veterinarian provide consistent and quality veterinary care for horses evaluated by the Equine Medicine Service at the William T. Pritchard Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH). Provide instruction and supervision of DVM students and residents on a daily basis in equine internal medicine and equine primary care medicine.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Licensed DVM in the state of California.
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or foreign equivalent.
  • Clinical experience and competence in equine internal medicine, both referral and primary care medicine.
  • Teaching experience (particularly clinical instruction) and experience providing oversight of professional students, residents and technicians in all aspects of veterinary large animal medicine.
  • Interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including skills to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.
  • Computer skills to enter and retrieve information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with UC data systems such as, but not limited to VMACS and VOLES.
  • Experience with the VMTH Large Animal Clinic policies and procedures.

Work Environment
