Reports to: Director, Pricing & Applications Engineering

Department: Pricing & Applications Engineering

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Applications Engineer provides technical expertise across product development, sales, and pricing for refuse collection vehicles. This position develops pricing & product support strategies that drive innovation and customer satisfaction. Success in this role requires an ability to collaborate, intellectual curiosity, and problem-solve. Familiarity with mobile refuse collection industry is valuable, as is experience with AI tools.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

  • Lead and manage the CUSTOM process, evaluating feasibility, developing value-based pricing, and establishing lead times for special options, aligned with product complexity reduction strategies.

  • Collaborate with Finance, Product Management, and Engineering to develop accurate cost models and pricing strategies for new and existing products.

  • Provide technical sales support to internal teams and external equipment dealers, including guidance on chassis compliance, weight distribution, and bid specification alignment.

  • Engage with Product Management to analyze competitive offerings and recommend design enhancements, pricing adjustments, or sales strategies based on evolving market insights.

  • Maintain awareness of chassis manufacturer developments and assess their impact on product compatibility and performance.

  • Partner with key accounts to refine annual specifications and offer technical consultation.

  • Participate in field visits with sales personnel to introduce new products and gather Voice of Customer (VOC) feedback.

  • Support creation of sales and marketing materials, including brochures, bid specifications, value propositions, and competitive comparisons.

  • Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Customer Care to address product challenges and support continuous improvement.

  • Identify and lead process improvement initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and customer experience.

  • Support implementation of new parts and designs through cross-functional collaboration across Engineering, Manufacturing, Production, Sourcing, and Sales.

  • Apply a working knowledge of municipal RFP and RFQ processes, including interpreting bid specifications and contributing to compliant, competitive responses.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's degree in a technical field (e.g., Engineering Technology) or 3-5 years of relevant technical experience.

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.

  • Experience in customer-facing roles such as Customer Service, Sales Support, or Applications Engineering.

  • Familiarity with basic AI tools is a strong plus.

  • Familiarity with refuse collection vehicles or similar hydraulic-powered equipment mounted on OEM chassis is helpful but not required.

  • Strong analytical, project management, and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially in navigating dealer relationships that require patience, empathy, and adaptability.

  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and computer-based systems.

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
