We're searching for the next generation of innovative minds who want to shape the world and live to build. CMAC is looking for a Field Superintendent in our Sterling, Virginia region. What You Will Do: As Field Superintendent, your primary daily responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
Coordinates and assists in managing field operations within a region or company division. Reviews regional field resource needs and assign available resources to current projects. Projects resource needs via lookahead schedule to predict upcoming manpower requirements. Assists regional leadership with recruiting, hiring, and performance management of personnel as required. Monitors the health of every project within a region. Provides regular status updates of field operations to regional leadership as it relates to the team, subcontractor performance, quality control, project budgets, and schedules. Maintains and promotes positive relationship with partners, contractors, customers, building officials, and suppliers. Provides input and consultation with regional leadership regarding staffing considerations on projects as required. Manages the culture of accountability of Superintendents to ensure proper management of projects, meet safety and quality standards, and to meet budget and schedule expectations. Provides expert technical support to partners as required to determine constructability, schedule, means and methods, and to resolve any related issues. Assists the estimating and procurement teams by reviewing documents for manpower productivity, constructability, phasing options, scheduling, temporary protection requirements, site logistics, and other field construction issues. Contributes to the development of and maintenance of updated general instructions, procedures, and guidelines for field construction methods utilizing current industry and company practices. Assists project teams with review of specifications and other bid documents to ensure compliance with technical and code requirements. Participates in constructability reviews of project documents to help determine the most cost effective and schedule efficient method of construction. Assists in resolving site operations issues (lack of productivity, sequencing of trades, responsiveness of subcontractors, internal staffing issues, investigation into client call backs for work deficiencies) as required. Partners with Superintendents to ensure proper manpower and equipment requirements. sequencing of trades, quality of work, budget controls, adherence to project schedule, and permitting of work. Establishes an environment that supports questions and learning in the context of the project goals, safety, quality, schedule, the use of latest technology, and current industry advancements. For all project team members, promotes development of knowledge base, leadership skills, and partnership by modeling effective performance, and encouraging discussion and debate over solutions and approaches. Provides motivational and constructive feedback to team members regarding the impact of their efforts on the project's success, impressions being created with other team members, and contributions to the quality of relationships being developed within the team.

Work Environment and Physical Demands: The majority of work is completed outside at the construction site and in an office trailer. This position is often exposed to sounds and loud noises, such as construction equipment. The job requires wearing protective equipment when on the construction site (hardhats, safety glasses, and high visibility clothing). Temperatures and conditions may vary depending on the weather and seasons. While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, tolerate heights, and able to talk and hear other employee talking. The employee must be able to lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 25 pounds frequently. Travel: Travel to and from the construction site is required; majority of the work will be done at the site. Most of the travel will be local, but some long-distance and overnight travel may be required depending on the project. What You Will Bring to the Team: Required experience, knowledge, and skills for this role include:
HS Diploma. Minimum 15 years of experience in commercial construction, including at least 10 years of experience in a supervisory role. -or- Equivalent combination of the above education, training, and experience.
Preferred experience, knowledge, and skills for this role include:
Trade related training and experience. The ideal candidate will have trained and have significant work experience as a Carpenter, Finisher or Operator. Ten (10) years of work experience in commercial construction in a Project Superintendent role.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Must have proven communication and leadership skills which demonstrate the ability to inspire team members, and engage with internal and external partners. Have excellent computer skills, and a basic understanding of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Microsoft Word, Procore, Building Information Modeling (BIM), and a firm understanding of Microsoft Project. Experience with reading and understanding owner contracts, subcontracts, and professional service agreements. Working knowledge of all aspects of commercial construction trades. Thorough understanding of building design and ability to read and thoroughly comprehend building plans. Analyzes problems and makes decisions in a timely manner based on objectives, risks, implications and cost. Advanced understanding of construction scheduling, cost control and demonstrated ability to control and supervise large groups. Tactful and mature demeanor with well-developed interpersonal skills including the ability to work well with diverse personalities and advocate for an inclusive environment. Successful completion of classes or other training in construction management, project management, safety, and communications. Must have great internal and external customer service.
