Position Overview


The Senior Database Administrator (DBA) leads the installation, support, and maintenance of our databases and Data Warehouse environments. This primarily includes Microsoft SQL, but also includes Oracle and AS/400 databases. The Senior DBA applies expert level knowledge of server, database, network, and operating system troubleshooting skills to support highly available systems in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.


In addition to optimizing our database/server environment, the Senior DBA is expected to provide guidance, direction, delegation, and mentoring to less experienced staff members. Project management philosophies will be utilized on major projects requiring technical work. The Senior DBA will be expected to develop database strategies, perform higher level administrative tasks, evaluate costs associated with projects while remaining technically current, and projecting future hardware and software needs.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Deliver technical expertise building, monitoring, and optimizing the performance of our SQL and/or Oracle database servers while aligning to our businesses goals.
  • Implement robust performance monitoring tools for Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Analyze query execution plans and optimize SQL queries for better performance.
  • Identify and resolve bottlenecks related to indexing, query performance, and resource utilization.


  • Collaborate and consult with users, system administrators, and software developers to overcome operational and/or technical issues and problems to improve application code and database interactions.
  • Utilize strong interpersonal skills in dealing with diverse skill sets and personalities and work effectively as a team player.
  • Lead cross functional team capacity planning exercises related to environment, database, and applications ensuring best practices are followed.


  • Mentor less experienced team members
  • Establish guidelines as it pertains to database and technology roadmap, architecture, engineering, and provisioning.
  • Manage the completion of database administrator work, meeting deadlines, and providing deliverables to the customer.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert of database related workflows.


Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 8+ years of demonstrated experience and expertise administering Microsoft SQL Server databases.
  • Microsoft Certified Database Administrator.
  • Familiarity with SSIS/Azure Data Factory development, ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, and data transformation tools.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering complex projects on time and within budget.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and project management tools.
  • Previous hands-on software development experience is a plus.
  • Epicor ERP Experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Oracle and/or AS/400 systems is a plus.
