Work under the general direction of Quality Management and depending on area of assignment, is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of:
Other duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Plan, schedule and coordinate inspection activities including in-process, receiving inspection, non-destructive testing and tool & gage control activities to achieve required schedules. Provide advance notice to management of any potential slippages or adverse trends. Periodically review inspection and calibration records to ensure accurate documentation is maintained for compliance with established procedures. Contact procurement personnel and/or supplier for missing certifications/data for receiving receipts, where necessary. Request inspection planning/documentation as necessary to ensure compliance with drawing and purchase order requirements. Generate non-conformances (NC) for non-conforming product and corrective actions (CA) as required for process violations. Work with and interpret blueprints, drawing, and MIL-Specs in accordance with Government and/or customer contract requirements. Provide leadership on quality issues, provide recommendations for improved contractual performance including gages, inspection methods, and specialized inspection equipment. Establish and maintain effective communication with and between functional groups/management to address problems and obtain resolution. Maintain properly trained staff to support inspection needs in accordance with company policy and federal/state regulations; evaluate skill needs and provide training, as needed. Perform inspections as necessary to ensure schedules are met. Control costs by scheduling appropriate use of manpower through the balancing of inspection needs with overtime requirements. Maintain high standard of performance expectations from employees through appropriate evaluations and training such that the assigned function demonstrates continuous improvement and compliance to standards. Conduct regular meetings to inform employees of general activities, company and corporate related actions. Lead and/or participate in process improvement efforts. Regular contacts with subordinates and/or other departments to furnish or obtaining information, discuss sensitive subjects and/or supervisory matters, requiring tact to avoid friction and obtain cooperation. Regularly works with some confidential data such as production schedules, individual wage and salary rates that, if disclosed, may have adverse internal effect. Education: Thorough knowledge of a specialized field such as inspection or quality assurance. Ability to read/interpret blueprints, purchase orders, drawings or inspection instructions. Requires ability to use personal computer and associated word processing, spreadsheet and presentation application software, inspection equipment such as optical comparator, CMM, laser micrometer, calipers, micrometers, pin gages, etc. Ability to inspect circuit boards to J-STD-001 and Level II NDT for x-ray or Level I with interpretation certification per NAS 410 a plus. Good oral and written communication skills needed. Equivalent to a high school education plus additional specialized courses equal to 2 years of college or experience. Experience: 5 - 7 years of experience. Scope of Supervision: Responsible for supervising 2 - 10 people. Kaman is an equal opportunity employer.
