Position Summary

The Maintenance Electrical Specialist is responsible for advanced troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of electrical systems and controls in an industrial environment. This role focuses on hands-on work with PLCs, motor controls, and electrical infrastructure, as well as supporting electrical project execution. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills in diagnostics, programming, and system upgrades, with a proactive approach to continuous improvement and equipment reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting & Repair
    • Diagnose and repair electrical issues in power distribution systems (480V/240V/120V), control circuits, and industrial machinery.
    • Troubleshoot and repair AC/DC motors, motor starters, relays, contactors, and other control components.
    • Use test equipment (multimeters, clamp meters, oscilloscopes) to identify faults and verify repairs.
  • PLC & Automation Support
    • Program, modify, and troubleshoot PLCs (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and associated I/O devices.
    • Interface with HMI systems and support integration of sensors, actuators, and drives.
    • Load/download programs and perform system backups and documentation.
  • Project Work
    • Assist in planning and executing electrical projects, including equipment upgrades, installations, and retrofits.
    • Interpret and update electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings.
    • Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to implement improvements and ensure code compliance.
  • Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
    • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on electrical systems and components.
    • Identify opportunities for system upgrades or reliability improvements.
  • Documentation & Compliance
    • Maintain accurate records of work performed, changes made, and parts used.
    • Ensure all work complies with the National Electrical Code (NEC), safety standards, and company policies.

Personal Attributes and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of industrial electrical maintenance experience.
  • Completion of an approved electrical apprenticeship or equivalent technical training.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, ladder logic, and wiring diagrams.
  • Hands-on experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems, including 3-phase power, motor controls, and safety circuits.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with VFDs, servo systems, and industrial networking (Ethernet/IP, Modbus) preferred.
  • Familiarity with CMMS systems for work order tracking preferred.
  • Basic project management or coordination experience is a plus.

Work Environment

Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. Frequently exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; outside weather conditions; extreme heat; risk of radiation and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
