ECS is growing and we're looking for a Senior Geotechnical Project Engineer to join our North Carolina transportation team. If you thrive on leading technically complex highway and bridge design projects, and want to work with one of the largest and most respected engineering firms in the region, this role is built for you.

You'll drive the geotechnical scope for major transportation infrastructure, including design-build programs for NCDOT. You'll also play a key role in shaping deliverables, coaching junior staff, and contributing to client relationships. It's a technical leadership role with real impact and visibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead geotechnical design on highway, bridge, and transportation infrastructure projects across North Carolina, with emphasis on DOT/NCDOT design-build programs
  • Engineer and oversee analysis for embankments, retaining walls, deep and shallow foundations, slope stability, and settlement
  • Write, review, and approve geotechnical reports, ensuring quality and accuracy of all submittals to DOT clients
  • Oversee and plan geotechnical field explorations, including drilling, test pits, and inspections
  • Serve as technical lead on project teams while mentoring junior engineers, field staff, and project managers
  • Ensure compliance with DOT and AASHTO standards, while developing innovative and cost-effective design solutions
  • Collaborate with other ECS teams across the region on multidisciplinary efforts and larger transportation programs

Client and Business Development:

  • Support business development by strengthening relationships with current clients and identifying opportunities for growth
  • Partner with marketing and proposal teams to showcase ECS's geotechnical capabilities in transportation infrastructure

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, or related field
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required; Professional Geologist (P.G.) license may be acceptable in certain states
  • 5-10 years of experience in geotechnical and transportation engineering, with a focus on design, project management, and technical leadership
  • Working knowledge in DOT Geotechnical Design Manual (GDM), AASHTO LRFD specifications, and geotechnical software (e.g., gINT, LPile, APile, MSEW, FB-Pier, GRLWEAP)
  • Strong analytical, report-writing, and communication skills
  • Demonstrate initiative and leadership in problem-solving and decision-making
  • Valid driver's license required for travel on behalf of ECS

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using OpenRoads/Microstation highly preferred
  • Proven track record of leading technical reviews and serving as a senior technical reviewer at a previous firm

If you're ready to take your expertise to the next level and make a visible impact on infrastructure that matters, ECS wants to hear from you. Let's build the future of transportation-together.
