Position Summary:

The Non-Destructive Test (NDT) Inspector I will be responsible for learning the technique of Non-Destructive Testing and evaluations for accept or reject determinations according to written instructions as well as learning how to organize and record results. This individual will become qualified to set up and use equipment, interpret, and evaluate results with respect to applicable codes, standards, and specifications. The NDT Inspector I must gain familiarity with the scope and limitations of the method of NDT used.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Learn and apply the Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) method of NDT in order to maintain product flow in accordance with company directives.
  • Gain understanding of the applications of the different methods to maximize efficiency and quality of inspections.
  • Apply testing criteria in accordance with applicable specifications or standards and evaluate results.
  • Learn to organize and report test results.
  • Communicate effectively to management regarding problems and corrective action.
  • Seek and act upon ways to improve daily work processes to enhance quality and productivity and satisfy customer needs and expectations. Look for cost reduction and service improvements, eliminate unnecessary or low priority work, and initiate and encourage others to resolve impediments, and act on improvement opportunities.
  • Participate in problem solving teams for driving to root cause of internal and external quality failures, particularly related to prevention of customer escapes. Priority to those requiring NDT.
  • Through utilization of experience and practical knowledge gained, conduct on the job training.
  • Regular on-site attendance and punctuality is a necessary function of this position.
  • Participate in 5s workplace organizational activities and maintain the area in good working order through sustainment activities.
  • May be required to work in other functional areas and/or facilities depending on business needs.
  • May be required to work overtime or alternate shifts based on business needs.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.


Education/Experience & Skills:



  • High school diploma or equivalent, preferably a 2-year or 4-year degree in a technical field, and 1-3 years of experience in a similar role or prior experience in Range Inspection.
  • NDT Level I Certification in accordance with American Society for Non-Destructive Testing recommended Practice No. SNT-TC-1A or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of standards related to nationally or internationally recognized NDT practices and certifications.
  • Must be able to clearly, concisely, and accurately convey ideas and information to others, in English, both verbally and in written form.
  • Basic Microsoft Word and Excel skills.


Working Conditions:



  • Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
  • Work is primarily standing (90 + % of the shift) except for lunch and break periods.
  • Shifts are 8 hours.
  • The duties of this job normally require exposure to a typical manufacturing environment. Frequent standing, sitting, stooping/squatting, walking, and stair climbing can be expected along with frequent lifting and/or moving of tooling, parts containers, and materials up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms, bend and kneel frequently at a minimum of 50% of the shift, as well as undergo repetitive wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, and ankle motions.
  • Must demonstrate proficient fine motor skills, ability to grip, reach, pull, turn, and use tools to torque fixtures in various machinery or in the assembly, machining, or testing of parts.
  • Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to focus on fine print.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. security mandates.
