Responsible for teaching Chemistry lecture and laboratory courses offered by the College.


Description of Essential Functions (critical tasks)

Essential Job Functions:

  1. In cooperation with other instructors concerned prepare or revise guides for courses offered in their division and submit to the Division Chair or appropriate Administrator for review.
  2. Teach classes assigned by the Division Chair and approved by the Vice President following course outlines approved by the College.
  3. Teach classes at all locations where classes are offered.
  4. In cooperation with other instructors concerned prepare textbook recommendations and submit to the Division Chair for review.
  5. File with the librarian a bibliography of library books to be used in each course.
  6. Prepare for the annual budget requests for instructional equipment and materials including maps books audio-visual aids and other supplies and submit these requests to the Division Chair for recommendation.
  7. Prepare requests for the purchase of new library books and materials as needed and submit these requests to the Division Chair for review.
  8. Report attendance and grades as prescribed by the Director of Admission Services.
  9. Attend division meetings called by the Division Chair and faculty meetings called by the administrative officers.
  10. Arrive at the classroom prior to the scheduled class time.
  11. Cooperate in the promotion of extra curricular activities by accepting reasonable assignments and encouraging student participation.
  12. Serve on such committees for the betterment of the College as may be established by the administration and faculty.
  13. Assist in registration as needed.
  14. Consider the general and special needs of the student.Assist students in meeting needs or solving problems when necessary seek additional help from other college services.
  15. Observe support and enforce the regulations policies and programs of the College and inform the President in writing of any problem that might have a detrimental effect on the College.
  16. Conduct oneself in a professional manner.
  17. Notify the appropriate Administrator well in advance of absences.
  18. Advise students assigned by student services.
  19. Demonstrate commitment to the teaching/learning process.
  20. Focus upon student retention and success.
  21. Use a variety of methods and teaching strategies that reflect the different learning styles and needs of students.
  22. Show an understanding of the community college philosophy including its unique ties to the workforce and its district.
  23. Work as a member of a team.
  24. Participate in development activities and maintain current perspectives in class presentations.
  25. Develop assess and maintain data for course outcomes assessment.
  26. Other related duties.

Specific Functional Job Requirements

Education Requirements:

  • Minimum of a Master's Degree in Chemistry.

Experience Requirements:
  • Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience in chemistry.
  • Background in Organic Chemistry preferred.

Knowledge:
  • Curriculum development, community college philosophy and population.

Skills:
  • Familiarity with equipment and software used in teaching chemistry and used in laboratories.
  • Experience with the use of NMR and IR spectrometers.
