Job Location: Torrance, CA

We are seeking a dynamic person to take on the role of Ocean Freight Manager in our Torrance, CA station. In this role the successful candidate will manage both the Import and Export Supervisors and is responsible for the success of the overall ocean operations. The manager will work to insure the department is profitable and prepares monthly activity/revenue report. In addition, the manager will liaison with all related vendors to ensure the highest level of service is achieved as well as assists and answers customer inquiries and other related customer service functions. The manager must strive to ensure continuous improvement processes to increase efficiencies, reduces waste and improve performance to our customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and grow the FCL/LCL Import/Export Ocean Freight business in a very dynamic market
  • Lead and develop our ocean freight operations team and talents locally as well as teams based in different geographical areas
  • Build on and continue to develop a high-performing team ensuring operational performance and customer service excellence
  • Successfully manage both core products in our imports and exports departments
  • Responsible for P&L Management, accurate financials, accounting and meeting budget
  • Collaborate successfully in a matrix organization including direct reports but also other functions like commercial, ocean freight product or finance teams locally, as well as based in other geographical areas
  • Responsible for designing ocean freight solutions and presenting to our customers
  • Responsible for supervision of all employees in the respective area of responsibility
  • Meeting operational and financial indexes and KPIs assigned and audited
  • Proactive customer, carrier and vendor management
  • Ensure continuous improvement processes to increase efficiencies and improve performance to our customers
  • Responsible to ensure compliance of all company regulations relating to operations, human resource and compliance policies.
  • Overall responsible for all management topics in own area of responsibility

Skills / Requirements:

  • 8+ years Ocean Freight Forwarding experience required
  • 3+ years management experience required (including P&L responsibility)
  • Extensive knowledge of ocean freight import and export operations, strong people's management and customer service skills
  • Strong customer-centric mindset
  • Strong leadership skills (communication, motivation and interpersonal skills)
  • Ready to take full ownership in areas of responsibility
  • CargoWise platform experience is a plus
  • BS/BA degree preferred
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

Pay Range: $115,290.00 - $153,720.00+ (Based on Experience)
