About our In-Patient Rehabilitation Unit:
Working on the Acute Rehabilitation Unit feels much like Med-Surg nursing, caring for patients who still need close medical oversight while participating in intensive therapy. The unit stays busy with assessments, medication and wound management, monitoring complex conditions, and caring for patients with needs such as central lines, oxygen support, or glucose management. Because ARU patients still require hospital-level care, you'll use the same strong clinical skills you rely on in Med-Surg, including thorough assessments, IV and central line care, pain management, and quick response to any changes in condition. Patients spend about three hours a day in physical, occupational, and speech therapy, so nurses coordinate closely with therapy teams to ensure patients are medically ready, comfortable, and safe to participate. The atmosphere is highly collaborative-nurses, therapists, physicians, techs, case managers, and social workers communicate frequently about goals, progress, and any barriers to recovery. With longer patient stays than typical acute care, you build meaningful relationships and get to see their progress firsthand, which adds a rewarding sense of purpose to the work. Overall, ARU blends the clinical complexity of Med-Surg with the uplifting momentum of rehabilitation. It's fastpaced, teamworkdriven, and focused on helping patients regain function safely while managing their ongoing medical needs-an ideal fit for nurses who enjoy acute care and want a more patient-centered, collaborative environment.
