Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist V for the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine (
CABM) .
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Teaching Specialist V position will support the research success in understanding the role of the microbiome in lung disease and
HIV-associated lung disease. The Research Teaching Specialist V will be involved in research projects that span human studies, microbiome research, the role of inflammation, and pulmonary function. The lab will address the question of how the oral, lung, and gut microbiomes may contribute to inflammation and lung damage and why people with
HIV get accelerated lung disease using human samples, organoid models, and ex vivo tissue models. The Research Teaching Specialist V is expected to directly contribute to this research by assisting in processing and analyses of human samples as well as assisting in research projects, lab organization, and lab ordering.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Conducts research under the direction of the Principal Investigator and attends lab meetings.
- Prepares, stores, and aliquots human samples including blood, oral wash, sputum, and stool.
- Analyzes and presents research data and assists with figure and manuscript preparation.
- Assists with lab organization, including setting up the new lab, and ensures proper maintenance of workspace, supplies, and equipment.
- Prepares lab order recommendations for equipment and supplies.
- Assists with experiments and maintains detailed records of all procedures performed.
- Assists with training other lab support staff in laboratory techniques as directed.

| Preferred Qualifications |
- Prior basic wet lab experience.
DNA and RNA extraction. ELISA. PCR.- Preparation and culture of precision cut lung slices.
- Cell culture experience.
- Prior research experience is an asset.
- Strong communication abilities will greatly assist in this position.
- A Master's Degree in a relevant science and/or significant relevant research experience (at least 1 year).

- Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, walking, talking, seeing, and hearing. Manual dexterity and vision sufficient for standard laboratory operations and computer data entry and analysis. Lifting up to 25 lbs.
