Technical Writer

Redhorse Corporation
United States, Virginia, Gainesville
Nov 18, 2025
About the Organization
Now is a great time to join Redhorse Corporation. We are a solution-driven company delivering data insights and technology solutions to customers with missions critical to U.S. national interests. We're looking for thoughtful, skilled professionals who thrive as trusted partners building technology-agnostic solutions and want to apply their talents supporting customers with difficult and important mission sets.
About the Role
Redhorse Corporation seeks a Technical Writer with two to five years of professional writing or government experience who can research and write clear, compelling content on tight deadlines. This role is ideal for a strong communicator with analytical ability who may be newer to writing government proposals but has demonstrated success with dissecting assignments, determining writing requirements, assessing audience/assessor viewpoints, and writing compliant and compelling responses to prompts.
Working under the guidance of a senior writer and proposal manager, the Technical Writer will own assigned proposal sections and contribute proactively to reviews, revisions, and quality control of proposal efforts across a range of technical domains (e.g., proposals for graph analytics, artificial intelligence, cyber ops). You'll help craft persuasive, compliant proposal volumes that position Redhorse to win new government contracts.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Analyze government requests for quotes, proposals, and information (RFQ, RFP, RFI) to identify requirements for submission compliance and ensure alignment with evaluation criteria.
  • Engage with Redhorse business capture, business development, contracting, pricing, and proposal team elements to understand strategy and develop win themes and differentiators.
  • Read and interpret highly technical source material; interview technical subject matter experts (SMEs) and on-site staff to gather detailed information and convert it into clear, persuasive proposal narratives.
  • Translate research into compliant, accurate, accessible, and compelling text.
  • Collaborate with proposal manager, senior writer, and on-site team to outline, draft, and revise proposal volumes such as Technical Approach and Past Performance, ensuring consistency and compliance across all sections.
  • Incorporate feedback from reviewers, SMEs, and leadership to refine content.
  • Balance independent work in a remote setting with in-person collaboration at Redhorse offices in Northern Virginia, as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., English, Communications, Journalism, Technical Writing, or a STEM field).
  • Exceptional critical thinking, analytical, and writing skills; strong attention to detail and proofreading ability.
  • Ability to understand and synthesize complex technical and operational information into clear, persuasive writing.
  • Collaborative personality with strong communication skills; able to coordinate input from multiple contributors and adapt to feedback; comfortable with providing feedback to more-senior writers.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in or with government offices, particularly in defense, intelligence, or law enforcement or experience assisting with or contributing to proposals, RFIs, or marketing communications.
  • Familiarity with federal contracting processes and proposal development.
  • Understanding of contract types such as FFP, BPA, T&M, and IDIQ.
  • Interest or proficiency in using Generative AI tools (LLMs) for research and content refinement (not content generation).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
