Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The Department of Recreation and Wellness (RecWell) is housed in the Division of Student Affairs. RecWell fosters comprehensive wellness by engaging students and the UNCG community in experiential and educational opportunities. We promote lifelong success through meaningful and inclusive programs and resources. RecWell offers comprehensive recreation and wellness programming including: fitness, aquatics, informal recreation, outdoor adventures, competitive sports, Esports, and wellness education. The department strives to provide opportunities that enhance student success.

Position Summary
The Assistant Director, Fitness is responsible for the strategic planning, development, coordination, and administration of fitness and wellness programs for students, faculty, staff, and the UNC Greensboro community. This position ensures the delivery of high-quality programs and services that enhance student well-being, foster engagement, and support the mission of the university and the department. The Assistant Director serves on the department Management Team assisting with strategic planning efforts and goal setting for the department.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Relevant Master's degree OR relevant Bachelor's degree with a minimum of three years of professional experience in fitness or wellness program management.
  • Nationally recognized fitness certification.
  • Current certification as American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer (or ability to obtain within first 60 days of hire).
  • Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours in addition to regular University hours.

Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates

certification (or ability to obtain within first 60-days). Current nationally recognized fitness certification.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant Master's degree.
  • Experience supervising full-time, part-time staff or graduate assistants.
  • Experience with program management and scheduling software such as Innosoft Fusion, EMS, WhentoWork, and Connect2.
  • Marketing, promotions, and communications experience.
  • Knowledge of budget management and financial planning.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to develop and lead fitness and wellness programs for diverse populations.
