We are seeking an experienced
Safety Systems Manager to provide strategic leadership and continuously improve our Safety and Sustainability Management System. This role plays a critical part in supporting compliance, advancing injury prevention, and driving a strong safety culture through system administration, training, and data-driven insights. This role will oversee the development of safety training and manage safety-related documentation, processes, and software platforms that support safety performance across HNI.
This is a full-time, direct-hire, salaried position with the Environmental Health and Safety team based in Muscatine, IA. Due to the responsibilities of this role, we are open to candidates who will work from the Quad Cities, Des Moines, the Greater Minneapolis-St. Paul Metro Area, or the western Chicago suburbs.
This position will require regular (bi-monthly or quarterly) travel to our Muscatine headquarters as well as sporadic travel to our domestic production facilities. The total amount of "travel" will depend on an individual's primary worksite location.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
EHS Systems Administration
- Administer and maintain the organization's Safety and Sustainability Management System (SMS), ensuring data integrity, document control, and compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Manage corporate EHS software platforms and tools, including configuration, upgrades, vendor coordination, and user training.
- Support system integrations with Learning Management Systems (LMS), incident tracking tools, and document repositories.
- Maintain safety-related documentation, including procedures, standards, and audits within EHS systems.
- Oversee access management, security settings, and workflow automation for EHS systems and applications.
- Collaborate with IT and Safety leadership to evaluate and implement new EHS technologies and data solutions.
Safety Data, Reporting & Analytics
- Develop and maintain dashboards and performance metrics for leading and lagging safety indicators.
- Analyze incident, near-miss, and audit data to identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for prevention.
- Partner with operations and leadership to share insights that inform proactive safety strategies.
- Support compliance and internal audit reporting for OSHA, ISO 45001, and other safety frameworks.
Training, Culture & Engagement
- Collaborate with Safety, HR, and Learning teams to ensure safety training content and completion data are properly captured within enterprise systems.
- Develop training resources, user guides, and communication materials to increase system adoption and understanding.
- Promote safety culture initiatives through digital platforms, engagement campaigns, and leadership communication.
Strategic & Cross-Functional Support
- Serve as a liaison between Corporate Safety, Risk Management, Legal, and Facility EHS leaders.
- Participate in system audits, self-assessments, and program evaluations across multiple sites.
- Provide input on the renewal and expansion of software licenses and support agreements.
- Support HNI's sustainability and environmental initiatives through data reporting, documentation, and systems support.
Experience
- 9+ years of Safety or EHS Systems experience
- Bachelor's degree required (Safety, Environmental, Ergonomics, or related field preferred)
- Experience and knowledge of safety management systems including OSHA VPP and ISO 45001
- Strong understanding OSHA regulations, safety compliance regulations, and EHS industry best practices
- Preferred familiarity with EHS international regulations (Mexico, EU, AP) and knowledge of Ergonomics and Behavioral Based Safety
- Experience with Safety Management Systems, EHS software administration, or enterprise-level document control systems preferred
- Manufacturing or industrial operations experience preferred
- Availability to travel (30%)
