| Primary Purpose of the Position |
Faculty in the Department of Physical Therapy in the School of Health Sciences at Winston-Salem State University invite applications for two 12-month, tenure or clinical track Assistant or Associate Professor of Physical Therapy faculty positions beginning July 1, 2026. This person will teach content either in Orthopedic or Neurologic Physical Therapy. We seek an exceptional candidate to teach graduate courses, serve as a faculty advisor, mentor students, produce scholarly research that results in publications in peer-reviewed journals within the discipline, present at professional conferences, engage in procuring extramural funds with interdisciplinary teams, participate in departmental, school, and university service as well as engage in service to the professional discipline and the larger Winston-Salem and Forsyth County, NC community. |

We seek candidates who demonstrate excellence in teaching Orthopedic or Neurologic Physical Therapy and interest in working collaboratively to enhance the strengths of our entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy curriculum. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching physical therapy and who illustrate an ability to leverage various technologies that engage students in the learning process. We desire candidates who illustrate evidence of mentoring graduate students in research experiences or who have experience engaging students in study abroad or community service learning where they must leverage their content knowledge to benefit the larger community. We seek candidates who demonstrate the ability to participate in interdisciplinary teaching and research collaborations with professional colleagues at the university, across universities, or within the broader public. Candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to their professional growth and development via engagement in professional organizations and professional conferences. Candidates should demonstrate potential for or previous experience in attracting extramural funding.
Applicants must have a degree in physical therapy and be licensed or eligible for a license to practice in the State of North Carolina. The selected candidate must become licensed to practice physical therapy in the State of North Carolina by July 1, 2026. Additionally, candidates who do not have a Doctor of Physical therapy degree must have an academic doctoral degree (PhD) or other academic terminal degree (i.e., Ed.D., D.Sc., DHSc.) in physical therapy or a related field. Candidates with "ABD" status will be considered. If the person selected for employment has "ABD" status, then she or he must earn the doctorate by July 1, 2026. |

Faculty in the Department of Physical Therapy prefer candidates who:
- Have at least two years of experience teaching Orthopedic or Neurologic physical therapy in a physical therapist education program;
- Are Board Certified Specialists (ABPTS) in Neurology, Orthopedics, Sports, or who have a manual therapy certification.
- Have previous experience in teaching online or who have experience in using Canvas or a similar Learning Management System;
- Have five years of clinical experience in practice of Orthopedic or Neurologic physical therapy.

The successful candidate will:
- Teach graduate courses in physical therapy via face-to-face, online and hybrid approaches.
- Perform community-based engagement in our pro bono clinics with physical therapist students in orthopedic or neurologic physical therapist practice
- Communicate regularly with students, monitor student learning progress, and provide feedback on student success outcomes.
- Construct detailed course syllabi, facilitate high quality, engaging instruction to students who learn many ways, assess student work by providing timely feedback, and evaluate student performance.
- Hold regular office hours each week, attend consistently departmental and school meetings, and participate in ongoing departmental, school, university, and community/professional service.
- Produce scholarly research that results in publications in peer-reviewed journals within the discipline area, peer-reviewed journals that relate to the high impact practices of community-engaged scholarship or interprofessional education and practice, or within peer-reviewed journals that promote the teaching and learning of the discipline, facilitate presentations at well-respected professional conferences, and engage in the procurement of extramural funds with interdisciplinary teams.
- Provide support that promotes continued accreditation of all programs within the department.
