The Spirit of the Position:

The Senior Accountant, Central Accounting, will play a key role in supporting LAZ's centralized accounting operations. Reporting to the Senior Accounting Manager, Central Accounting, this position is responsible for executing critical accounting processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance, and collaborating across departments to enhance overall financial reporting quality. This role serves as a key liaison between Home Office departments, regional operations, and external vendors-requiring strong communication skills, sound accounting judgment, and a proactive mindset.

  • Home Office (Hartford, CT) - Hybrid schedule

Principal Job Duties:

Technical and monthly routine responsibilities include compliance with internal accounting policies and procedures, including but are not limited to the following:



  • Perform and review monthly journal entries, reconciliations, and financial analyses across centralized accounting functions such as insurance programs, payroll accounting, fixed assets, national allocations, and e-commerce reporting.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data and adherence to internal controls.
  • Act as the subject matter expert on LAZ's internal accounting processes, providing guidance and ensuring consistency in application of LAZ accounting policies.
  • Support the month-end and year-end close processes to meet established deadlines and reporting requirements.
  • Partner with the Senior Accounting Manager to identify and implement process improvements that streamline accounting operations and enhance reporting efficiency.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure accurate and timely recording of national allocations.
  • Prepare schedules, analyses, and documentation to support internal and external audit requests.
  • Assist in maintaining and documenting accounting policies, procedures, and system workflows to promote consistency and compliance.
  • Contribute to initiatives aimed at enhancing automation, accuracy, and standardization within the centralized accounting function.


Requirements:

Education:



  • BS degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or CMA certification is a plus.


Experience:



  • Proven work experience as a Senior Accountant or similar accounting role.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles.


Skills:



  • Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.
  • Proficiency in accounting systems and advanced knowledge of MS Excel (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations).
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet strict monthly deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
